I loved when my daughter was still living at home and we had times to run together. It was wonderful! I still love running..and I'm ready for spring! The sun is rising earlier..and I love when the sunrise is part of the morning run!!

Love, love, love this! When we run for play and allow ourselves to truly just enjoy it, the experience is completely different. There are days I take my training more seriously and I'm a goal-oriented runner, but I also make sure I run for fun too. I like the sentiment "when was the last time you did something for the first time?" Maybe it's running somewhere different, taking a silly photo each mile, "running" an errand, or running with a new friend (maybe save that one for when we're pandemic-free).

Everything you said is why my daughter and I love running Disney races...which are real races (qualifying times are required for corral placement) and we laugh and take photos thru the whole race. Non-Disney races are good, too, but every now and then you just need some magic miles!!!

"Allow yourself time to make lots of mistakes as you learn how to do it". That is what i needed to hear today Terrell. I am a grown man but am just like you. Nothing makes me more effective than positive reinforcement.

I decided that this year I would concentrate on getting into the best shape since I stopped being overly competitive years ago. I try to make training fun... forget looking air the time, look at how many miles you enjoyed running. People ask, how you can lace up or throw a leg over a bike everyday and not get bored. I like a lot of runners always have something going on in my head... a good music playlist on my watch or an audio book on my I-phone. I'm lucky that I'm retired and can run anytime of the day... that in itself is something most people can't do... rain at 6:30am.. no problem, 10 or 12 will still work. With very few in person races, I've been racing on my own looking to the day I've gotten my shots out of the way... Last week I ran my own 5K... 8.07 MPM.. I was both elated and sad.. 8 seconds per mile less and I'd be in the sevens again... Today I pushed it... 7.47 MPM.... I'm over the top... My work in the gym and on the road has given me something Covid can't take away... a smile from ear to ear and plans for pushing the limits again this fall when the weather gets cool again...

And it sounds like the right move for your son to get out of the toxic environment created by that coach. You're a good dad!

Thanks, Ruth! Honestly, all the parents were pretty stunned. None of us were at ease at practices, we were all pretty much on edge, wondering what he was going to do next. It was a little nerve-wracking! Glad it's in the past. 😃

Terrell, I know how much you worry about your kid loving and playing sports. Thought you might enjoy this article that was in The NYTimes Weekender: https://www.nytimes.com/2021/03/16/magazine/sports-children-kids.html
