Races you'll love running + weekly recommendations
Good evening, friends! 🌙
I just wanted to say, I’m incredibly heartened and excited at your response to running together in the Richmond Half Marathon this November. (If you missed Monday’s issue, you can check it out here.)
I was able to sign up for the race, and even set up a club for us at the race registration page, which you can see here. (You’ll see it listed under “The Half Marathoner Newsletter.”)
Next week, I’ll send out a training plan that we’ll start this coming Monday, a guide for us to train for the next 16 weeks. In the meantime, though, if you’d like a guide to train for another race you have coming up this fall, here are full versions of a couple of plans we’ve used together in the past — if you don’t see your distance here, let me know!
Until then, I hope you’re staying safe and out of the heat so much of the country (and really the world) is experiencing right now. I’m trying to get my runs in too, as much as I can on my treadmill, as Atlanta’s heat and haze has been pretty oppressive lately. Hopefully we’ll all get some rain and storms to blow it all out of here.
Have a great, great run out there and let me know how it goes!
Your friend,
— Terrell
🏃 To run
🏰 Cheshire Half Marathon. A gorgeous run along the flat, rural roadways of Capesthorne Hall, a 100-acre Victorian country house and grounds in England’s Cheshire countryside, less than an hour’s drive from nearby Manchester. Along the route, you’ll pass by Capesthorne’s three lakes and its formal gardens, which surround the castle-like Hall with woods, parks and perennial flowers in a pastoral setting. Set for September 10, 2023.
🏙️ Urban Trail Run + Festival Half Marathon. A scenic romp of a run through Theodore Wirth Park, whose 740 acres lie just outside downtown Minneapolis and feature plentiful, hilly dirt and grass trails. You’ll run around the park’s golf course, its wildflower garden and bird sanctuary, and the lake in the middle of it before heading into the finish line at Utepils Brewing, along the edges of the park. Set for September 17, 2023.
🏞️ Freedom’s Run Half Marathon. A run through the site of the bloodiest one-day battle in American history, where more than 22,000 soldiers died, were wounded or went missing at the Battle of Antietam in 1862. You’ll run along the Chesapeake & Ohio Canal for a short stretch before crossing over the Rumsey Bridge across the Potomac River and into Virginia, where you’ll run 4 1/2 miles through the Antietam National Battlefield. The scenic rolling hills of the lower Shenandoah Valley will be over your shoulder throughout the race, and you’ll finish on the 50-yard line of Shepherd University’s Ram Stadium. Set for October 7, 2023.
