Thanks for this post. I’ve run for forty years, so lots of dipping here. I try mixing up my route, listen to a variety of podcasts, music, recruit friends to run with me, and hang at the gym three days a week. As I approached the starting line of the Malibu Half last November, I thought who needs this! I’m driving like a crazy person at a ridiculous hour to fight for a parking space only to be there way too early, which I hate, and pace around til the start. I had to focus on the beautiful day and recognize that I GET to do this running thing. It is a gift and the pregame is just details.

How was the Malibu Half? I’ve signed up for it twice, but life got in the way and I wasn’t able to make it either time. It looks amazing from the photos.

It’s beautiful! My only complaint is that we’re confined to one lane, which becomes half a lane once the fast folks hit the turnaround. It’s fairly hilly but you can’t beat the view.

Funny one, my cousin was stuck in race traffic, since Pacific Coast Hwy was down a lane, so she texted me to report that there was a race going on in Malibu and did I know about it??? You betcha🏃🏻‍♀️🏃🏻‍♀️🏃🏻‍♀️

I had to stop reading the post for a minute I was laughing so hard. I was pre-med until I hit Organic Chem. And, now I'm a psychologist. Go figure. I have a question - how long can dips last? I had two accidents this past summer and have had difficulty getting back to running. I have gotten the okay from my doctors but just seem to have lost my motivation/energy. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Think less, move more. Change up your route, music, find a friend to run with. Variety reduces the doldrums.

I am not psychologist and did not have to take Organic Chemistry, but I laughed at that as well. I am a math and Operations Research person:) For some reason I feel the Dip can last as long as you want it to last - I agree it's easier said that done, but sometimes for me just doing something that this "Dip" does not want me to do actually helps to overcome it. Like yesterday I tried to find numerous reasons to not going to the pool (which I have been trying to go back since October, like twice a week, may be 20-30 laps) - it felt so great on my very first lap! May be just go tomorrow morning (or whatever time you prefer) for 5k (walk, run, sprint - whatever you feel doing) - then post what you feel right after it? :)

I’m in So. Cal., but there are groups all over. Google Jeff Galloway Run/Walk groups and see if there’s one near you? If not, get one of his books to get started. I Googled the NYC group, since I’m running the Half in March. It turns out that they are inactive in winter, but their coach wrote me back and said he could put me in touch with some of their members. Galloway has a Facebook page as well. Check it out.

I spent much of last year injured, and now rehabbing a new kink. I joined a Galloway group, which helped get me back in action. I also signed up for a bunch of races. Goals are

good. The group support was key for me. I’m an LCSW, we’re lousy at self-care, but gotta take our own advice at times.

Is that Galloway, Ohio? I don't live too far from there. Is there some way to get information about the group?
