I have a calendar that is just for recording exercise and running workouts. I also tend to do 75% of my running and workouts before I go to work in the morning. I tend to stick to my plan more consistently when it is first thing in the morning. I run 3 - 4 times a week and do cross-training the other 3 days.

I missed last week post and got covid.

Had 2 days of mild symptoms ( this lady is boosted!). So this week I went back to my Bible "Running Your First Marathon. The Complete 20-week Marathon Training Plan" by Andrew Kastor and have put 10 miles this week so far.

When I saw your post today, I went back to last week's as well.

I'm so glad that we're in this together!!!!

My plan might be slightly different from yours because my week starts on Mondays and I'm planning on running my half marathon beginning of Spring before the weather gets too crazy here in Florida.

It will be a pleasure to share my experience with this inspiring community.

Clear from Atomic Habits had me nailed when he stated (as quoted in your article) "Many people think they lack motivation when what they really lack is clarity". It is an absolute fact that when I schedule my runs at a time I can reasonably do them, taking into consideration how much I love sunshine, and demands of hearth and home and little residents, I am successful. I cannot get up and run at 6am, period, even if it seems like a great time to knock out my run. But on days I go into work at 10, I can get up at 6, get in my running clothes, drink coffee, feed the multitudes, and run happily at 8 in 27 degree sunshine 🌞 So that means two days during the week and afternoons on weekends while our smallest resident naps with dad. I hedge my bets by telling my supportive spouse of my running plans, which helps enormously. I cap it off by sharing my running stats with my older kiddos, basking in the "you rock, mom" texts. Clarity equals success 🙌

This post resonanted with me; not so much the creating a routine for training habits but the 'rest is more' aspect. I'm from the generation and school of "more hard miles makes for a better runner." I'm still a work in progress for undoing that train of thought that has been imbedded in me for years. After a long stretch of running hiatus, I got back into my relationship with running hard core these past two years. I've been grinding out the mileage and hard workouts but getting frustrated with race times that didn't reflect my efforts. Going back and looking at my training I now see that I was overtraining and not giving myself enough recovery time. I'm re-training my brain that it's ok to have easy run days more than hard days. I also have to accept that I'm a mature runner in my 40's and I can no longer compete against my 18 year old D1 collegiate self. Easy days are a necessity, not a luxury. But it's easier said than done as the sub-conscious is always talking to my conscious that easy=not fast! Running truly is a journey and no two legs are the same!

I am off my running plan for weeks now. It started with the covid booster just before Christmas degrading my strength, and an aborted run where my wife had to come pick me up. Then on to dental pain that became a root canal earlier this week. My next half is at the end of February, so I'm not too worried about getting back to it all. My plan is to get an 8 miler in tomorrow to see how much this almost 60 year old body forgot about running.

The 14 Miles in the title was downright scary, but as I got into the newsletter, it made sense. Didn't ever think of training as miles. My head works in minutes and everything is easy runs until the weekends! I don't have a plan, but in looking back at my running log, daily runs start at about 2PM when it has warmed up and chores are finished. Ah, the beauty of retirement!

I'll be out this afternoon. At the moment, it is 48 degrees, no rain and a dry MLK weekend predicted. I'll have to look up miles for Saturday as it is usually long, but is bound to be fun now that Spring is on the horizon. :)

Good morning, I am switching up my running plan and running in the afternoons before it gets dark. I am working from home right now and after sitting at a computer all day, an afternoon run helps so much. Happy Running!

I'm a teacher so I've habitually tracked everything I do. I do a "workout" daily [either cardio/running & weight training w/cardio - alternating days], unless I'm too tired that day [try to listen to my body]. My school desk calendar is filled with multiple colors for the various activities, along with officiating [referee for b'ball, teacher 2nd job!] & school based stuff!

Right now, with an injury, I'm restricted to doing soft-landing workouts [elliptical, for now] which skews the mile #'s. Last week, I "ran" 25 miles. This week, so far, I've "run" 17 miles so far. My non-run days usually include a post-weights 4-mile+ elliptical workout and my run days, right now, include an 8-mile+ elliptical workout. I'm hopeful that I'll be able to get out on the road again beginning in February...

Tyrell, I appreciate this, it allows the community to both support and hold each other, somewhat, accountable to meeting our goals while working together! I'm also hopeful that we can find a way to pick a race we can all attend [maybe an event with various levels to allow "choice"] soon...
