I wasn’t ready for a challenge in May, but our second is 4 months old now and I’m trying to get back in shape! Shooting for 50 but if that means I at least pass 40 it will be the best month in a long time 😜

It may be a bit lofty. But let’s do this🔥

Sounds Good Matt -- Now that I have gotten back to my Run/Walk for the last 10 days and have been able to do 42+ miles I am shooting for 3.75 a day which would get me about 115 for this month.

I’m thinking the same per day. Hoping to do at least 4 per day. But can change up after doing long runs. Today I did 8 miles. So I can do a shorter recovery run. But want to be consistent. That is my biggest hurdle.

Tyrell, never asked, is this a run/walk? I was only including my run miles…

Good morning Terrell! Happy rabbit day! I am going to shoot for 100 miles again this month....taking the first week off for a staycation so that should bump my numbers🫣BTW-I watched a bit of the live feed for the WSER in which Courtney Dauwalter smashed the course record and won in 15:29:35! I’ve never run over 13.1 miles let alone 100! Incredible!!!!

That’s so cool, Karen! Have you seen the documentary on her, “The Source”? It’s so good: https://youtu.be/DQSiygnDm-U

I have not but will watch it! I am starting to try and dip my toes into east trail running..as I stated earlier in a thread, I’m obsessed with sally Mccrae....have been watching all her utube stuff lately....I guess it’s just I know I’ll never be able to run those distances so I’m living vicariously through others!😝

I’ll try for 100 - 3 miles a day should get me there. By the way, how do I join the Strava group you mentioned?

Every year I do this thing called run the year. You complete distinctness. I like it because it keeps me focused and it's a lot of fun. Every hundred miles you get a little plaque. On your app. They have different challenges as well. I think what you do, too, is amazing too, because it makes you focus. Oh k, we're gonna do this.. It makes you focus on how you can reach your goal. Oh k, I'm gonna do this. I'm gonna run 3 or 4 miles every day, Or every other day. I think schedules are really important because it makes you want to get there. Another good motivation is sign up for Race. When you finish the race you say yeah I did it. People look at exercise as a drudgery it's not. When you're out there it's so peaceful and you can think to yourself. Stop wearing ear buds and all that stuff. Go out there and enjoy yourself. You have enough stress in your life. And this text all is stressing away. Because you have so much stress in your life. It just takes a little that stress away.. We need to come back to nature that's what exercise or walking is all about. Monday life is always great but it also it's we're always Hurrying everywhere. This is why I run it brings me back to nature

Terrell, GM! It's "good" to be busy but it also takes me away from what I'd otherwise like to be doing. Here's my mileage for the month of July - 106 miles [actual running - with walking, probably double that]. I'm looking forward to "tracking" this monthly, think you, it keeps me aware of the day-to-day more than I have in the past. No real races planned yet so not "training" for one - have a couple shorter ones [5k & 10k] in thoughts for Sep & Oct though! Love the blog and what you are doing for us!

Stan, that is seriously awesome! With walking, you easily surpassed 200 miles for the month, right? You are an ambling machine! :) And, right back at you -- I'm so glad you're a part of this too.

Hey fellow runners! I'm interested in doing my first marathon and heard about the Muir Woods marathon through this newsletter. I've done a half marathon before and I regularly run long distances, so I feel like a marathon will challenge me. I was interested in the Muir Woods one because I love nature, the redwoods and hiking, and it's also significantly cheaper than the SF Marathon (which is around $350 to register for these days). However I'd have to train in more trail running/elevation. What are your thoughts on doing a trail marathon for a first marathon? Any tips? Or should I stick to road running for a first one? Thanks!

I'm in. I typically will try for 100 miles and didn't get there "officially" in May, I'll look to 100 miles again, for July.

Tyrrell, I wonder if we could find a way to use this, and the group, to come up with a good connected place for a donation based upon the final miles [maybe $1/mile for whomever wants in - can base it upon the individual's totals] that would be helpful for running. Don't have in mind but cannot imagined that group members couldn't come up with some - maybe do a different one each month. Just a thought...

I’m 2 weeks post op from a hip replacement so no running for me but I’m going to set a goal of walking 1/4 mile without a walker or cane by the end of the month. I have no clue whether that’s an easy goal or way beyond my reach but it’s something to shoot for.

I had a 50 mile goal in the May challenge, so July needs to be significantly higher..will decide after the w.e performance whether 80 or 90. Thanks so much again for catalyzing this! Summer running is much easier with regular check ins :-)

I don't "count" the walking but yeah... Still planning on the Richmond run too.

Last month I ran 56 miles and walked 75. My goal for July is to put in more running miles. 70 running and 65 walking. Good start today with a hot 8 miles.
