Saturday, I’ll be running the Heroes Bridge 5k in Warrenton, VA. Heroes Bridge is an organization that helps disabled Vietnam veterans who can no longer help themselves by providing needed services such as meals, transportation, shelter, companionship, etc. As a reasonably fit and healthy Vietnam veteran myself, I feel obliged to participate on behalf of all my battle brothers.

This race is intensely personal for me. Friday is National Vietnam Veterans day, marking the end of our involvement in the war. It also marks the 51st anniversary of my departure from Vietnam, one of the last 200 depart on the last flight out. Two weeks ago I attended the memorial service for a long-time friend and battle brother who finally lost his 3-year battle against agent orange induced cancers, and three weeks from now I’ll also be attending another interment service at Arlington. Of the 2.1 million who served in Vietnam, fewer than 500,000 are still with us. On Saturday I will be running with them and the spirits of the 58,472 who never made it back, and we will finish together.

Unfortunately you can't plan the timing of your injuries. Take care and heal responsibly.

Terrell, your health is most important … consider going as Thomas V has suggested. As mentioned previously, this running community isn’t just about running, it’s about community.

Terrell, please take care of yourself. I’m not running currently, but I had PF in the past and it was both physically and psychologically challenging for some time. Hoping you recover soon.

Why not just go and meet everyone? I enter the half in Montreal, but had hernia surgery. The trip was planned so I went and enjoyed a great weekend in a new city for me. I even watched some of the race, with a beer in my hand!

Terrell, I hear your disappointment and hope you’re up and about, slaying 13 milers, soon! I’ve been in a similar boat since NYD, my left hip flares up in pain after a run, but X-ray is clean and doc says might be just a muscle strain. I’ve now pulled out of several 1/2M and staying off running for some time..hope this will solve the problem, fingers crossed

It's OK, Terrell. It's just running and another race. I think I read that in one of Hollie's newsletters. Words of Wisdom from her father who is also a runner.

I had looked forward to meeting the rest of the community, but alas, it is not to be. Will have to pass until another get-together is decided on in the fall. I'm sure you will let us all know and maybe your "runner" will be functioning again! :) Take care!

I told you about my entire year out of the streets due to foot injury. It sucks but it's our responsibility to take it easy when necessary.

I'm still dealing with knees issues and unable to run long distance too. I have been running a 5k here and there.

Feel better Terrell.

Terrell - thank you for the genuine apology, it is appreciated! First and foremost, you have to take time to recover! Sometimes you have to take a step backwards to take 2 steps forward…take care of yourself! Have you looked into recovery tools - I use a foot massage roller although I don’t have PF - it simply feels good. Give it a try 😊.

Hey Terrell, I’m really sorry to hear this and honestly I wondered if you were going to make it due to your injury. I am right there with you…not due to injury but I talked with Pre’s sister, Linda Prefontaine, about doing the Tour De Pre while I was up there for the race. She told me she only does them late May through September. I still debated but then found that my boss took that Friday off before the race. Needless to say. I decided against it. Even Donna and I discussed it and she was going to be in the middle of three other races for that month and decided to calll it off too. Major bummer for both of us.

I hope to meet you and other members another time. Looking forward to the next planned race and get-together!

I want to follow David O's lead and mention that I am going to be running the Potomac Half Marathon this weekend and would love to meet fellow readers either at the finish line or in the city afterwards if anyone here is also running it.

Best of luck recovering Terrell!
