Terrell, I just finished the Inner Runner by Jason Karp. Excellent, excellent book.! The final chapter is worth it's weight in gold. Great reading for runners who are getting older and cry about their times getting slower! The books was so good that I've ordered a copy to put on my self as reference!

Been out walking a lot this week. If the cold ever went away this year, I'd be out running, but it seems to like the 40s for some ungodly reason. I just cannot get into running in refrigerator temperatures every day!! Promised myself I would go out tomorrow on a run of form intervals

. . .Saturday is more rain, but it should be in the 50s. Gotta get those long runs in sometime! :)

Same here, Nilima! We got a huge burst of polar air down here in Atlanta, so it's going to be in the 20s again this weekend. I can't believe it, but it's true. So I feel you, big time!

The bird water was frozen solid this morning and the humming birds were going crazy cuz their food was frozen. Going out anyway. The temps just made it over freezing. Hope your outdoors gets better soon! This is supposed to be Spring!?

Terrell, lovely writing about your running experience. You have discovered some fundamental truths that I believe will resonate with any and every runner. Thank you for your insights. They are gifts all humans can attain. Materially, the cost is insignificant. Existentially, the cost is invaluable. At minimum, running is the portal to a meaningful life. And who would forsake that journey….

You are too kind. I hope you will give birth to a book one day and marry your passion for running with your big heart and brain. Selfishly, I hope the gestation time is not too long. Also, congratulations on keeping the Half Marathoner alive for all these years. I hope you have been able to monetize it so your efforts are financially rewarded. Not easy to do…

I ran the Gasparilla Half Marathon two weeks ago. I wasn’t happy with my time (8:22 per mile) but I was able to remind myself that I ran two half marathons on the weekends before it to catch up with lost training time. Plus I’m 59 years old. Last Sunday I ran the Skyway 10k. That went better, I was around 7:45 per mile. There were loads of walkers on the course, wandering aimlessly from side to side in packs. So I had to do lots of zigs and zags. I came in at 136th out of 6807 runners, and 11th out of crusty old men.

I keep reminding myself that I can let work hang while I run, but it’s harder to do than it sounds. I need a new race focus on.

As we loaded the buses for the 10k, my wife and I started talking to another couple. We compared times. They apologized for being slow. I told her that I don’t know anyone who judges the speeds of other runners. We only judge our own. That’s who we compete with. It’s just the truth.

Okay, one time it wasn’t true. A nephew who is around 25 years younger, threw some sarcasm my way when I posted a recovery “run”. He was a marine. I told him to talk to his dad (my brother) before he accepts my challenge. I’d race him two miles. The winner would get a picture of the other person with a sign made by the winner, and the he loser would have to use it on their Facebook profile for a week. Crickets. My sisters kept asking him why he hadn’t responded.

I am praying to do a 10K Garden Spot New Holland March 26. I know I will have to walk alot but I want to finish and get the experience of feeling I accomplished a great personal goal . Blessings & Safety to all Thank you

I think how you put it together was amazing you tackle every issue like how it is Running in very special and helps people get out and see the world. Even if you have a bad day you can put on your shoes and off you go and it will make you so much better. It brings joy and quiet when you really need it sometimes when you're really stressed out. I think running more walking is a very positive thing to do to get out Because you're so intentive in this world but there's beauty to it too.

Thank you for articulating so much of how I feel about running. I'm not one to follow much online, but I find myself drawn to your posts more and more; the information about half marathons might have been what drew me in, but the rest of the conversations are often more valuable for their inspirations and confirmations.

I had jotted down a quote that from Why Bother, by Jennifer Louden awhile ago that echos some of your points and thought I'd share it: " Running is an embodiment of caring....Our body is the fastest way in, the fastest way to decide what not to bother about and what to bother about, the fastest way to support your real desires, the fastest way to stop waffling...to feel your way into lasting change."

'Registering for Glasgow now!
