Out on another adventure today this time to the Herbstzeitkuerbisaustellung (fall pumpkin expo) in Ludwigsburg, Germany. (A nod to Mark Twain’s that awful German language).

Thank you, Terrell, for another lovely, meditative, philosophical post. It was just what I needed at the end of a stressful week.

Your non-running friend,

I've been pondering the concept of duality lately--this idea that life is this blessedly mixed bag of goods--and I love what you say here:

"There’s only one thing I can think of that’s been constant through all of these things: I’m still here. I’ve survived. Which means I’ve found something resilient in myself — that not only have I survived, I can survive."

As for resilience... a year ago, I interviewed one of my best (and much older) friends before she died...and when I asked her what was the one thing--the one piece of advice she wanted to pass on to her children (my contemporaries) and grandchildren--she said, "I want them to learn resilience. To understand that they will go through all manner of ups and downs--but if they're resilient, not only will they make it through the difficult times, but they'll have greater appreciation for the good times as well." So here's to surviving and to "finding something resilient" in ourselves.

What a touching story, Diana -- I would love to hear more from your friend! Have you published your interview with her anywhere?

When we knew her time was coming to an end--I flew to Santa Barbara to interview her with the intention of giving the videos to her children after she passed--which I did...so they are not public...but it was the idea behind what I INTENDED Wit & Wisdom to be...interviews with people who have wisdom to share....I just need to get off my (insert whatever word that works) and do it!

Excellent Terrell. I agree. The miracle is that we exist. How does one re-pay that miraculous "gift"? Yes, contribute your unique verse. And Teerrell I would only add "without harming any sentient being" as we all share the same miraculous gift...LIFE.

Thank you, Clark! And yes, that's such a great point -- we all should think about the Hippocratic oath more, shouldn't we?
