I am already registered for this race as it is my last pacific-rim state in which to complete a Half. Hopefully, my back will cooperate, and I will be able to run it instead of doing so much walking. Either way, I will be there.
This is so fun! I ran the Eugene Marathon last year and loved it — in part because the temperatures were absolutely perfect. I also did my MA at Eugene and have a really fond place for it in my heart. I'm running the Missoula Marathon this year instead, but would recommend flying directly into Eugene if possible (instead of Portland, unless you have other traveling to do) and staying close to the start line. The Graduate Hotel is slightly farther away but very fun in terms of classic UO/Nike gear....and any of the hotels north of "East Campus" will put you within a five minute walk of the starting line. The finish on the track is glorious!
Thanks for all of this, Anne!! Super, super helpful -- especially the tip about flying in; I was considering flying to Portland and renting a car, but I'll fly directly into Eugene now. I really can't wait. Good luck in Missoula!!
Eugene is operating more flights than before. It is quite north of the campus. . I live on W 27th in the south. No matter where you go in Eugene, do rent a car--you'll be glad you did!! Everything is miles, not yards or feet. If you are used to sidewalks, fine! Public transportation, if you are lucky is about an hour apart. Walking is not recommended and I am a runner/walker of an older vintage.:) Down by the U is fairly flat, but it does go up fast and you'll wonder why you are on foot!!
So bummed. I was going to try to fit it in, but that is the weekend of my yearly spa trip with my daughters, and I also signed up for the Avenue of the Giants Marathon which is the following weekend. I hope I can make the next one.
I really really really want to do the Eugene run, Richmond was so much fun. But. I just don't think I can, with other trips planned. I'm already suffering from FOMO! 😢
I'm definitely in. I have already booked an Air BnB and still looking for flights. I haven't run consistently since the race, so I will be happy to get back on a training schedule. Training through the winter on LI is tricky, but it's been so mild, I'm pretty sure it'll be do-able. Since the race is on Sunday, I hope we can do a few more things together before the race. Richmond was amazing and this one looks to be also.
Only suggestion I have is move to snow country. . . after awhile, you'd wish for warmth and rain! We moved from Fargo, ND to the West coast to get away from that nonsense. :)
Have a great run. . . I'll be indoors on the rowing machine. . .better for me than a treadmill. :) :)
I did this race two years ago and finishing in Hayward Field has been the most memorable for me. If you are considering doing this race, do it, you will not regret it. Last month I shared that I experienced a minor cardiac event while running. After many tests it has been determined that every once in a while my heart throws in some extra rapid beats. I started a medication to control this last week (I am taking a beta-blocker) and it has wreaked havoc with my running. I struggle to complete 3 slow miles and that’s with some stop-to-walks. I can’t imagine not being able to run, but right now it is not enjoyable. I am really hoping as my body adjusts to this new medication, things will get better. But....I am so bummed right now as I can’t imagine being able to run a half in 15 weeks. Probably running the 5k on Saturday is realistic, cheering you on from the stands on Sunday. I would really like to meet some of you from.this community. Thanks for letting me share. If any of you have experienced this, I’d love to hear from you.
Ken, I'm so glad to hear you've gotten medication and treatment, and are (hopefully) on the mend. I'm so bummed you won't be able to join us in Eugene, but maybe the 5K on Saturday might be an option too? I can see doing both, perhaps -- do you live in Eugene, or near there?
I live in Seattle, but have family in Eugene so I am down there frequently. Eugene is a beautiful area and hope to retire there soon. It would be awesome to do the 5k together if it works out.
Do a shorter race if you have to. There is no shame in having to walk and Eugene stays the same! :) Yes, there are still trains all the time morning, noon and night!
I've been reading "The Half Marathoner" for years now and really enjoy it! I love this idea, but the timing for this one doesn't quite work out for me. Maybe next time!
So glad you're here, Donna! Hope to perhaps meet up next time -- I'm thinking we'll do these twice a year -- once in the fall, once in the spring, alternating locations and (hopefully, one day) taking them international. Stay tuned!
I'm considering it. Dealing with some knees issues and waiting for some progress to see how they behave during and after training. Haven't run since my last 5k at Christmas.
I'm already signed up. . . have been since November since I live here. Last year it was 77 on race day. . .we'll see how it fares this year. Right now, it is raining with snow predicted for Wednesday.
I’m also confident that we’ll run together someday, but not this April in Eugene. My sites are set on the Door County (WI) half on May 4th that I have registered for. Have fun and remain injury-free everyone!
I’m ALL in for a race in Oregon!!! I have been wanting to go back to Coos Bay Oregon, which is the birth place of my hero, Steve Prefontaine, and that’s only a couple hours from Eugene.

That's great to hear, Denise! See you there!

Just speaking from experience. . . :)

You will be missed for sure, Stacy! We'll do another one in the fall somewhere on the east coast again, though :)

I’ve done this twice and it is so fun!
Nice! Did you run the half or the full? (Or both?)
The 1/2. It’s a fun one!

Wow! I wish we could get some snow here...
I’ll check it out.
Hope you can make it, Matt!

Right back at you, Cheri! That should be a beautiful race.

Count me in!
This is so awesome, Jennie! We'll finally get a chance to meet in real life! :) Really looking forward to it.
Same! I am looking forward to meeting you IRL, like my kids say :)
I believe our paths will definitely intersect one day, but regrettably not this April in Eugene. Sounds awesome. Enjoy Terrell and All…
You will be missed, my friend! Next time we’ll have to get closer to Cuyahoga NP.
♥️👣♥️
See you in the Fall. :) Run safely
Yes! I’m in! Can’t wait!
Awesome!!! 🙌
