'Oh, how wonderful it is to do nothing and rest afterwards'
And a live chat with Anna Maltby on Monday, Dec. 15
I don’t know why I find it so memorable, but I’ve carried the phrase in the subject line above in my memory ever since the first time I saw it, carved into the top of a wooden desk back in college.
It’s perfect, isn’t it? It sums up exactly what I want to do this time of year. I can feel my energy start to power down, like the engines of an airplane once you reach the gate.
Now is the time for movies, chili and cozying up by the fireplace. I am getting some running in, but it’s pretty sporadic right now. That’s okay, though, because come January first, we’ll be back at it.
For now, I’m enjoying a little rest and I hope you are too. I wanted to share with you something special I have planned for next week, a Substack live chat I’ll be doing with
, who writes the fantastic newsletter How to Move.Anna is a longtime health journalist, certified personal trainer, and mat Pilates instructor who also pens an occasional column for the New York Times on all things exercise. I’m excited to talk with her so I can finally — finally! — get on track with strength training.
It’s a goal of mine for the new year, as I’ll be turning 55 in January — it’s something I want to incorporate in a way I’ll actually sustain. And because I know I’m not the only one with questions around strength training, I thought I’d invite you to our conversation too.
So, mark your calendars for Monday, December 15 at 1:00 p.m. ET — and feel free to send me any questions you’d like to ask in the meantime.
I can’t wait to learn more from Anna, as I really want to use the next year to get in plenty of running, but also to work on my whole body — strength, cardio, what I eat, how I sleep, all of the above.
I’ve prioritized running over all those things, but at (almost) 55, I know it’s time to grow up a little and add more things into the mix. I hope you’ll join us on Monday!
See you then — in the meantime, keep in touch and send me your questions, and we’ll answer them live.
Your friend,
— Terrell
