My scientific illustrator younger self would have been slathering over Kenya! Maybe next lifetime. :)

Isn't it the anticipation of the race that brings out the best of us? I love the starts and take it all in. The rest is a lot of work for 13 miles or longer. :)

Beautiful Spring Day today, almost 60 degrees. Next week. . . Snow.

Love the quote....especially as I raise the curtains on Act 3. Yes, I am all about “savoring” every morsel of life as I finally notice the sand grains

To connect the two readings together, for I'm "old" now and started to run competitively when I was already "old", personally giving away a trophy to all participants has made our world less competitive in terms of wins and losses but more competitive about how you look when you "get" your trophy.

There was an interesting discussion held last year in my school, for our seniors in HS as they were reaching graduation for the school academic awards. There was one student who was clearly superior to all the others, and in every subject matter as well, but there were "talks" as to whether this student should simply get all the awards. My argument pro was what are we teaching this generation, if they all know one is better, that it's okay not to try and attain successes if the rest get to share in that award moment. Thankfully, in my opinion, the student who was the best got the recognition for being the best!

Also, as I've run more competitive races, I've also started to learn to enjoy the run and have found myself moving further and further away from the start line [thanks to the world of electronic chips], even walking up to the "start" line before going and appreciating the run more and more. I also think this group has helped me to come to that realization for, as a former college athlete, not sure I would have gotten there on my own.

Once upon a time, I was. Life turned out a little different, but it's one job I would do again in a heartbeat. :)
