I'm in Eugene. OR. Just got both of my eyes back this week. 20/20 vision without glasses! What a difference not having cataracts. . . I can actually see in 3-D now! I have a 1 mile charity run on 8/10 for Lahaina Strong to get the old running going again. Probably go along Amazon Creek. Signed up for the Bend 10K yesterday--April 13, 2025. Beautiful run. Of course, I prefer Bend to Eugene. There is a full and a Half, too, but having not run in a while, I went for the 10K.

Expand full comment
Denise G.'s avatar

Yes, but the Disney marathon weekend can be hot, even in January, or it can be frigid cold. A few years ago, it was so cold that at the water stations, the cups froze, and the spilled water turned to ice, making for some dangerous conditions for runners. You just never know about the weather that time of year. At least in the summer it is consistent....consistently HOT! :)

I was raised in Atlanta, GA but have lived on the coast of ME for many years. I am in a town called Boothbay, about an hour north of Portland, and I run year 'round up here. My favorite runs take me right by the ocean. We boast a long foot bridge over the water which is fun to run across early in the morning. On another note, tomorrow is the Beach to Beacon 10 K, a little bit south of me, in Cape Elizabeth. THE Joan Benoit Samuelson hails from there and she started this race over 25 years ago to honor all that her hometown gave her. You literally run where she used to!!! Who can forget her winning the first women's marathon in the Olympics in 1984?! It really "cracks me up" (NOT) that they didn't think women could handle running that distance not too much before her victory in Los Angeles. I "did" a Beach to Beacon training run several years ago with Joanie. Let's just say I saw her as she ran back by us slower folks; she yelled "Go team!!" How good is that?!Unfortunately, I am not able to run this amazing event as I had surgery the day of the sign up. It sells out in minutes. Quite

honestly, I am sad about this, but plan to run my own 10 K tomorrow in Boothbay. No need to whine as I am so blessed that I GET to run!!

Hello,

I'm currently calling Whitefish Bay, Wisconsin home. It's a suburb of Milwaukee and a great area for scenic running along lake Michigan. When we get winds off the lake it's like running next to a giant air conditioner. Temps along the lake can be 10-15 degrees cooler than locations further inland - really enjoy that during the summer.

Usually I am in hot, sweaty Houston, Texas. But this summer, my mom and I are on a long, cool cruise from Canada through Northern Europe. As I write, we are somewhere between Iceland (which is AMAZING) and Norway. Temperature for my run this morning around the Promenade deck (3 laps to a mile) was a delightful 48F 🥰 ; winds near gale force + rocking ship gave a small ‘level of difficulty’ boost 😉 Long run tomorrow should be slightly warmer and less ‘difficult,’ but there may be more passenger promenading, which creates different challenges 😏
