Every once in a while, I love to throw this question out there so we all can see just how far we’re all scattered around the planet. (Plus, we’ve had lots of new people sign up since the last time we did this.)
It’s fascinating to me to find out where you all come from — I’ve heard from readers who live just down the street from me, and from places as far away as Brazil, England, Israel, Italy, Greece and Tajikistan, and all over the U.S.
So, where are you in the world? And, when the pandemic is over and it’s safe to travel wherever we can, what’s the one place in the world you’d like to go visit, if you could get on a plane today and go there? And what do you want to see there? — Terrell
Saskatoon, Saskatchewan Canada! Though we live in the city we have a northern cabin so my running adventures had included encounters with all sorts of animals. Running into a pack of wolves on December 31, 2019 was one of the most memorable and I think it was also a sign of what was to come ;) Lucky for me the encounter had a safe ending. But I love running in the trees and paths up there.
I can't wait to race again as the energy of events is so wonderful. I also have some hikes in South America planned with my best friend when it is safe to do so.
I am from Seattle Washington I would love to do a race in Italy when it's possible I think we are all getting back to normal I've done 2/2 marathons in the last 2 weeks in they went extremely well and unhappy with that let's just keep opening up in racing even if we have to do covert restrictions but we need to get back to racing Myrtle racing is great for training that motivates people but we want to get together and let's go
Arkadelphia, Arkansas. Not sure the one place I would choose to go, but my child is attending college in Wales (the country) this fall, so I hope to do a little running there while I am helping her settle in.
Madeira Beach, FL (This year's #9 beach according to TripAdvisor). I do all of my training on the sand. Makes running a race on hard ground easy. I'm taking the plunge and doing my first marathon - The Marine Corps Marathon in D.C. - OOHRAH! As a former Marine I can't wait. There has got to Marines running it formation. I would love to fall in behind a platoon and sing cadence with them.
Bethany, CT which is near New Haven. Top of my list is to do more races in Britain but I'd also like to do more all over our beautiful country. New Mexico, Hawaii, Maine, California, Virginia....hard to choose, especially after reading the comments below.
Little old Rockwall TX, just east of Dallas. I’ve always wanted to dive the Great Barrier Reef, but since being on Strava and seeing all the beautiful pictures people post of their running in Australia, I’d like to go there for a run as well.
Portland, Oregon. I'd love to go to Iceland, and loose myself on a trek for a couple of weeks. Just the land and sky, with no schedule or technology to bog me down.
I am in Waynesboro, Pennsylvania and I would really like to visit Sequoia National Park! The idea of seeing trees that have been around for millennia is fascinating to me.
Maryland, just outside of D.C. :) - living with my Grandpa for a season, which has been super sweet! - Sooner than later, I hope to visit the Monterey Bay Aquarium (California) and the surrounding area. It is one of my "Global Top 10s"! I love that place. Once international travel opens up (and I have enough money), I might try joining a National Geographic or REI tour. I haven't tried either, but their advertising looks cool and they are both reputable companies. One of my recently-added-to-the-bucket-list trips is walking the Camino de Santiago. :)
Williamston, Michigan (just east of Lansing). Hope to travel to Alaska and specifically spend a few days in Denali National Park. We were supposed to do an Alaskan cruise last year and do Denali, but the cruise got canceled. We will forego the cruise portion, and just travel around Alaska sight seeing 🙂
I live just outside of Denver in Thornton. I want to finish my challenge to run a half in every state. To be honest, the places I want to go are where I have friends and family who are immune compromised. They have been so careful and isolated and I miss them so much. Just to WALK in a park with them would give me that running high. ❤️
Williamsburg, Virginia, the colonial capital where it’s always 1775. We have an enthusiastic running community with races, now live, covid-careful, events almost every weekend.
I'm in Denver - moved here 2 years ago and love it! Really want to run in some races at sea level to leverage all the mile-high running I'm doing here. 😂 For travel, I'm planning on Hawaii at the end of the summer! France and Italy would be nice too but will have to wait at least another year!
Singapore! Looking forward to travel - even if it's just over the border in nearby Malaysia (3 km from my house) - I'd be excited. I've even left my house with my passport and run to, and then in, Malaysia, just for fun.
North Bergen, New Jersey less then 2 miles from Hoboken. I run to Hoboken and along the beautiful waterfront a few times a week. I haven’t been to NYC since February 2020 but I see her majestic skyline all the time.
I live in Destin , Florida. I received my 2nd vaccine early February so 3 weeks later I headed to New York to visit my son who lives there. I’m headed back there again in a few weeks with my whole family. Other than myself my son hasn’t seen any family in over a year!!
I've been in Tampa, Florida for a long time and have done some traveling but now that travel is opening back up, I'd love to run in and visit Italy. On another note, my friends and I are putting together a trip to Scotland for golf. There will be some running involved also.
I live in Atlanta. Since I’m no longer working , I’ve been able to spend a good part of the year in Highlands, NC, which has been amazing. Looking forward to taking my 6 year old on a road trip to NYC and NE this summer
I’m in the Phoenix - AZ area, recently moved from Columbus - OH in 2019. It has certainly been an adjustment moving to the desert :)!
I’m looking forward to going back to Aruba - it’s a beautiful/small Caribbean island that’s not in the hurricane zone and the weather is relatively the same year round!
Moving from Evansville, IN, to Newburgh, IN - a whole 15 min away! We have been in a downtown condo for nearly 14 years and wanted to get back to a home. I would get on a plane in a quick minute and go to Yosemite.
Originally from Vermont, home of the Covered Bridges Half Marathon. Now live in Cabot, Arkansas a bit n.e. of Little Rock. Great biking, hiking and running trails here in the Natural State. My favorite is the lengthy AR River Trail and beyond.
I am in Northeast Ohio near Cleveland. It is a great area for runners with lots of park trails and a strong running community. Right now the places I most want to go are Germany (Berlin), England (London), and Japan (Tokyo) to get stars 3 through 5 in my Abbott 6 star journey. Boston will be last as I will likely need to run for a charity to get into that one. Berlin was supposed to be last year and we deferred this year to next since they cancelled Oktoberfest which was going to be the second half of our trip (bucket list item for the hubby). Beyond that, there are so many places I would like to go see and some that I've been to and want to return to again and again.
Wise River, Montana, about half a mile from the Bighole River. My job doesn't give me time to travel, but if I could step into a transporter and beam myself somewhere it would Iceland to see the volcano currently erupting. Of course that would change if my daughter and her family move back to Australia. If that happens I guess I would want to go Down Under.
Still in Redmond WA. Sitting on the fence waiting to move when the rental moratorium ends. Rent prices here in the Seattle/EastSide area keep going up and up. I do like it here, but would love to move out of the area to a place that is more temperate. SLO, CA(San Luis Obisbo ) and Morro Bay) are the love of my life. . . right along the ocean. The beaches are fun to run, but not the beautiful dunes like you get in Florida. . . more like rocks with sand in between. It is a Mediterranean Climate, so one can garden all year long which is my other favorite hobby. I have my eye on City to the Sea Half (SLO to Pismo Beach). Seems to me it is in November.
There are too many places in the world I would like to visit! Perhaps Genoa, Italy as I have relatives there, ( I'm half Italian ), but that is pretty limiting. New Zealand looks good, as does all of Europe. I've visited lots of places on pilgrimage, conferences and cruises. Truth is, there is no place like home!
Canton, Ohio. Home of the NFL Hall of Fame. Last Sunday was the HOF Marathon. Lot of fun racing in that! Set a PR 🙌 I have the Indianapolis Marathon to look forward to in the fall. Hopes for next year would be to race in Maine somewhere
Sooke, British Columbia (on the southern tip of Vancouver Island west of Victoria) Next summer my buddy Ernie and I plan on taking a 50th anniversary trip around Europe. We went in 1972 to the Olympics in Munich, Germany. Ernie has been back dozens of times, me only once. Frank Shorter won the Olympic marathon that year. Mark Spitz won seven gold medals. Lassie Viren from Finland won the 5,000 and 10,000 metres. Olga Korbut won three gold medals. Germany was of course divided in two.
I’m on the big island of Hawaii. I’ve been trying to go on the Camino de Santiago in Spain for a long time. The trip has been canceled three times. Hopefully 2022 will be the year.
Davis, CA. Was just talking with my girl this morning about when I might get back to Africa... Closer to home, it's time to start returning to Monterey to dive, and maybe get a run along the shoreline...
Birmingham, Alabama! We went to Florence and Rome, Italy a few years ago. I ran in Florence and watched the sun come up and the city come alive! It was amazing watching the people dressed in working clothes walking, scooters, cars flying by and listening to the language! My husband and tour guide was concerned I was out running alone. But I love running in new places and really treasure that experience! Also have been to Paris but felt like it was too Americanized!! Planning a trip in four years to Australia for our 50th wedding anniversary❤️
I live in sunny central Florida where in the summer it's HOT & HUMID every day... Even though I only live 1 to 2 hours away from either coast, my dream is to live on a dune overlooking the ocean. To me, the sound of the waves is calming and the ocean breezes keep you cool... So if anyone wants to donate to my dream I'm all in ...LOL ... And one of the best things, is I can run 365 days without a winter coat and boots...
In ATL and I love travel, but I had such a travel intensive year leading up to the pandemic (had a goal to visit all 50 states before turning 50 so in the final months of 2019 I spent 36 hours in Alaska, ran a half in Idaho (loved this!!) and went to Paris for my DEC bday) that after a year+ with my family of 5, all
of whom are awesome and fun, btw) I mostly just want to be in the house alone 😂
I live in Las Vegas, NV. If I could go anywhere, I’d go to Italy. I’ve always wanted to go there. My hubby served a mission there for our church for 2 years when he was younger & still speaks Italian pretty fluently. He’s never been back. I’d take him & sight see & eat all of the yummy food, plus get some runs in!
From the Seattle area (Cascade foothills actually), based in Berlin for the past 10 years, top of the travel goals list when the world reopens are places like Lofoten, Iceland and the Faroes for hiking and kayaking adventures, and someday more remote destinations like New Zealand and maybe the Kurils :)
I am from Carmel, Indiana (just north of Indianapolis which is home to the largest half marathon in the country). I am hoping to visit Arcadia National Park in Maine in July of 2022.
We've lived in Kansas City, Missouri, since 2017. The pandemic cancelled our romantic train trip to Chicago last year, so that goes to the top of my where-to-go list.
Friday Thread: Where are you in the world?

Portland, Oregon. I'd love to go to Iceland, and loose myself on a trek for a couple of weeks. Just the land and sky, with no schedule or technology to bog me down.
I hail from Pasadena, CA and if all goes well, I will do the Great Ocean Road half marathon in Melbourne, Australia in 2022.
120 km east of Gdansk. Slupsk, Poland.
I am in Waynesboro, Pennsylvania and I would really like to visit Sequoia National Park! The idea of seeing trees that have been around for millennia is fascinating to me.
In London Kentucky, would really like to spend some time at the beach later this year.
I'm in SF now. I'd love to visit Taiwan and Singapore!
Maryland, just outside of D.C. :) - living with my Grandpa for a season, which has been super sweet! - Sooner than later, I hope to visit the Monterey Bay Aquarium (California) and the surrounding area. Nordland WA [Marrowstone Island]. Hiking the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu Peru!! The pandemic has this trip postponed twice and then finally canceled.
I'm in Newport Oregon. I would love to see Italy.
Berkeley CA. One place I’d love to go is the island of Coll in Scotland to participate in their half marathon.
Williamsburg, Virginia, the colonial capital where it’s always 1775. We have an enthusiastic running community with races, now live, covid-careful, events almost every weekend.

From Tigard, OR, about 10 miles from Portland. Walking an in person 5k tomorrow! First in person in over a year!
I would love to go to Scotland, been on my list for a very long time!
Currently in Charleston, SC. Looking forward to finishing the camper renovation and visiting family and national parks all over the place!

Monterey Park, CA. Suburb of the vast L.A. County.
I have been listening to a bunch of British detective novels that take place all over England/Scotland and I really want to go see what they describe.
Washington D.C. if the Marine Corps Marathon is live rather than virtual.
Baja California, specifically the lagoons in February so I can touch a Grey Whale!!!
Sooke, British Columbia (on the southern tip of Vancouver Island west of Victoria) Next summer my buddy Ernie and I plan on taking a 50th anniversary trip around Europe. A bit NW of Boston MA, so I'm a "Runnah", not a runner. 😉

Biloxi Ms. I would go to Africa/Egypt and the Antarctic. The two continents left to visit on my bucket list.
