I have my state #31 half marathon coming up, really looking forward to the Swamp Fox half, a trail run through the Francis Marion National Forest!! I love trail runs. They take me longer, but they're so much fun and incredibly beautiful.
Little late for the Friday thread. My goal event this year is to fast hike the Rim to Rim Trail in the Grand Canyon. I have hiked the rim to rim about 15 years ago but we camped along the way. I am very excited to return to the canyon.
Wow nothing as grand as your friend for sure but revel white mountains half in May and wineglass in Oct another half but that one is with my sister. I finally convinced her to give it a try so no goal times on that one. Big goal is my first ultra either late this year or early next. Stay safe out there.
Re-learning how to run (mechanics), nursing plantar fasciitis, making a bid to run a 3:45 marathon in the second half of the year (currently 4:10). I think it’s doable.
My goal is to get healthy and continue to stay fit … as mentioned, favoring right foot with broken bone on in-step. Setting sights on Niagara Falls this year. Gym pool has been a godsend … doing laps through cold winter months (for Fort Lauderdale, that’s anything below 70 degrees!).
You're lucky you get to swim. I'm lucky I get to row! Within 42,000 meters of the million meter marker. Take care of your foot. . . The body starts to dictate how you run once you are over 73-74 years of age! (I'll be 78 when the Kahakuloa Half Marathon rolls around!) :)
Pressing on towards my goal of 50 Halfs in 50 states: 24 more to go. I have signed up for Las Vegas R&R at the end of the month and Colorado Slacker in June. Still contemplating Cincinatti in between. Then in fall have 2 in mind but have not yet registered. Trying to get the hardest (higher elevations and hills) out of the way before my body decides I am too old to run.
Dis Flying Pig in Cincinnati in ‘13 … it was a great experience. Tremendous local citizen support. Jack & Jill in North Bend, WA is great, too. Let us know are still on your “to do” list.
Headed down to Dallas to escape the end of this MA winter! I live there part time for work, and I'm hoping to crush a long standing goal of mine to go sub 2 hours on my half marathon! I'm close, last attempt was 2:03. But once I get off the Treadmill and back onto those flat tx roads I'm excited to really give training my all and commit to the speed work days, and soak in the long runs in much better temps.
Well, see, Terrell how far I get. I have 3 halves planned. . . one on on the 15th of March, which I may or may not make. The 15th is awful close, now that I looked at the calendar. It is in Maui and I've always wanted to run it. . . who knows. The second is closer to where I am now living in Oregon. . . in Bend. I have a close friend there. . . April 13th. . . and I know the territory. The third is in Maui, again, the Kahakuloa Half Marathon, which is on June 7th, the Day before my birthday.
At the moment, I'm rowing from the 9th-14th for my Valentines Challenge (14000 meters). . . then it goes on for Mud Madness from March 1-March 31(rowing) . Nothing for the fall or winter. I'm cutting back until I can see what course my life takes. It is confusing at the moment as I don't really like where I am living or enjoy the company. Give me a heads up on the fall meet-up. I'll do my best to make it this time!! Cold here, now. we had snow the other day. More predicted for today. . . on a brighter note, the daffodils are up, the Japanese rose is blooming, the clematis has buds. Should be spring again soon!! :)
My son and I are running the Sea Turtle half next weekend in Gulf Shores AL. Bucket list to run a race with him. Forecast isn’t looking too good but there’s time for it to change. Checking it off the bucket list…YAY
I have three half' s planned in three months. We will see. Ashville NC in March, the Horsetooth Half in CO in April and another half in Greenville, SC in May. Then its summer!
Goal one for me is to get over a nagging calf pull, possible tear, in my right leg. I cannot run - substituting everything else to maintain the cardio until I can trot again. 2 months and counting. 2024 was my first year of dealing with chronic low-pain injuries. Glute and hamstring strain took 7 months to recover. Then, the calf strain happened a month after I started back. I suppose one might say that after 40+ years of running, I was due for such a year! Yet it is now 2025, and I look forward to pain-free running soon! Goal two is a half marathon in Syracuse on 23 March. Given that I can walk briskly with the calf strain, If I need to, I will walk the race!
It’s been 5 weeks since I did a virtual half and my ortho guy revealed I have a broken bone in my right foot. Will walk Florida Half in Melbourne, FL this weekend.
Bummer!! I hate that this is happening for you, John... ugh. Love that you'll be there regardless, though -- it might actually be fun to walk a race, you know?
As this is an off year for me as I have way to many projects to spend the warm months of the Midwest training. I am going to re-attempt a goal that I tried and failed at a few years back. The failure was more do to illness than training. I am going to attempt to complete 13 half's in 13 months. I already have the first 4 written in ink and I have an idea of what I am doing for the other 9. Lets see if I can stay healthy enough to complete the goal this time.
I was really excited to see someone else from this group planning on doing the Half Marathon for Grandma's in Duluth! I just realized it is 20 weeks away!!! So better get in some running. Since I live in NW WI I have been concentrating on TRX and CrossFit since it got somewhat harder to run outside. The holidays did a job on my diet so there are a few pounds to take off. It is time to start getting outside when possible.......and find some ice free trails to run. Diet is key and that will also be a priority. Looking at some small races between now and Grandma's to keep my focus. I will be 76 when I run Grandma's so please just pray I stay injury free and can set myself a reasonable pace. Thank you all in advance!!!
For sure........one thing I know about runners .......they are the friendliest and most helpful people on the planet.........We will keep in touch.....training inside during this cold snap......although the snow snows might come out tomorrow.
Planning on using that............I ran inside yesterday as part of a CrossFit work out.........1000 meters in 11:30 minutes.............when I did the math that puts me at just under 4 hours for the Half............looks like I got some training to do.......my usual pace is around a 12 plus mile. Look likes I got some training to do!!!

Just reading these on Saturday. Anyone doing the Charlottesville 10 miler next month? I’ll be there!
Wish I was! I love Charlottesville -- hopefully someday :)

I will keep you posted! Thank you for your positive words.
This is going to be just incredible, I know. Can't wait to hear how it goes.

Nothing yet definitely open to suggestions
Do you have an ultra picked out for your first yet?

Love these -- all big goals! I dealt with PF in the early part of last year, so I really feel for you. Go James!

Will be thinking about you!
Good luck at Niagara!! Keep healthy! :)
Getting ready for the Sand Hollow half in Utah on March 8.

The Long Bridge half in Sandpoint Idaho, May 10
Just watched the video of it on YouTube -- it looks gorgeous!

Best of luck … did 12 a year in ‘22, ‘23 and ‘24 … I believe it has taken its toll on my body. Best of luck on getting to 13.
That's an amazing goal, Mike! What are your first four?

I believe you will be fine … as I recently turned 75, I have a new mantra … TIE-GID … stands for “take it easy, get it done
I love it, take it easy get it done. TIE-GID. Cool!
They tell me it's all down hill..........so should be easy (LOL)......I find I get more energy from the crowd! I love that TIE-GID....Thank you.
Right back at you, Marianne! Good luck with your training -- in case you need one, here's my 20-week training plan: https://www.thehalfmarathoner.com/p/my-20-week-half-marathon-training
