It’s December 1, which means we’re thinking about what we want to give the ones we love. (And what we’d love to receive too, especially if there’s something we’ve had our eye on for a long time!)
It occurred to me that, instead of coming up with a gift guide, it might be a lot more fun to reach out to all of you and hear your ideas about the running gifts you’re giving this holiday season, or what you’d love to receive.
For me, I have no real logical reason for wanting one, but there’s a part of me that just really, really wants one of the new Coros Pace 3 running watches. I don’t need one — I already have an Apple Watch — but the gear nerd in me just would love to see it in action.
Even if you don’t know quite what it is — you can just post your thoughts or wishes on what you might want — what would the runner in you want to open up as a gift this holiday season? Or, what are you thinking of giving a runner you love? — Terrell
I’m so tempted to take the plunge and buy this, seems simple enough. I used to be an Apple Watch person a decade ago but all the various things it could or could not do distracted me all the time from focusing on the run. Then I accidentally shattered the face. Since then, have largely relied on the phone and sometimes a $14 Casio as a timer. I just need a not-too-smart watch that can basically accurately measure the miles, cadence and heart rate, so I don’t have to lug my phone for every run
I’ve been thinking about the new coros pace 3 myself! I love my garmin but am wanting a few more features. My company gives us $500 a year towards health and fitness and watches are on the approved list...lucky that that can cover the cost. Will have to get in January tho for the start of a new year....
With the hills here where we live in Oregon, I got my daughter and her friend Brazos Hiking sticks.. I don't know what wood they'll turn out to be, but they will be nice. . .handcrafted twisted.sticks. Mine is Hickory, rustic, well finished and cut to a length that is perfect for me. I could use a warm stocking cap which I am looking for. No need for socks. . .I don't wear them, but Darn Tough in Vermont makes the best. The watch I wear day and night is a Timex Easy Reader. . . I can see it anywhere! The fancy ones are lost on me!! Have a great run. We have two Atmospheric Rivers hitting here in The PacNW, so it is wet. . . and I understand cold and snowy over the Cascade passes. Take care!:)
All 3 of my grandchildren are budding runners and every holiday we go to our favorite independent running store and buy them shoes & socks. Soo much fun❗️And this Thanksgiving, we bought our 13 year old cross country granddaughter an autographed copy of a running book by Julia Hughes. She loves it.
I'm tough to buy for. Usually when I see something I like, I buy it! An Apple watch, various pairs of shoes and ear buds. But, there is one thing I never tire of getting... a good pair of seamless running socks. I'm hard on them and the Sock Fairy always seems to take one... why only one I'll never understand. So, if my Bride is reading this, GOOD SOCKS in LOUD colors.
I have a night-running “vest” - it’s basically a chest strap with a light, a waist strap to secure it, and thin “tubes” of efflorescence that cross over the body and sit on the shoulders. It charges via USB and lights up for running at night. I love it. It looks like I’m running to a rave. lol. Whenever I wear it and pass another runner, I always get asked about it.
It’s not this brand (and TBH, can’t remember what brand mine is is) but looks very similar: noxgear Tracer2 - Multicolor Illuminated, Reflective Vest for Running or Cycling (Rechargeable, Waterproof) https://a.co/d/1U0BeO1
I have gotten a few people to start running over the years, which is a gift for me and them. Then I pay their entry fee and join them for their first 5k.
My Garmin Vivoactive 4 is dying as we speak so I have been researching watches. 10 years of my activities lives in Garmin but I am really considering the Pace 3. Especially that PRICE with all those features compared to Apple and Garmin !!!
I wouldn't complain if someone gave me yet another trucker hat from any of my favorite outdoor/running/hiking companies. And it would be nice if someone gifted me the training journal that I always love the idea of but rarely write in, rather than me buying it myself.
I’ve had this headlamp for a few years now and it works great for night runs. Very lightweight and USB rechargeable without the hassle of a cord. Great stocking stuffer- I’ll be getting one for our run/pint club secret santa exchange. Better yet if you can find it at a local retailer! My husband who walks (and downhill skis!) asked for more higher than the no see Feetures socks so I bought those for his stocking and then I bought a headlamp for him to put into mine ;)
I love socks! :) So I'm gifting my running friends....Fun colors and thicker ones for winter runs. :) Plus I'll probably through in one of my books or a poem. HA!
I just added the Coros Pace 3 to my gift list. My wife gets $600 a year for fitness gear, and she’s old school. She just exercises.

All I want is race fees!
I would also love a new watch. I have a Garmin Forerunner 245, but would love to try something new!

Already had the Coros Pace 2 for some years - had a hard time justifying now to buy the Pace 3, but in the end, I did it. No regrets up-to-date.

For stocking stuffer ideas: Compeed blister bandages, sunscreen, running gloves, Nuun tablets, water bottle running stickers (love runnergrams on Etsy: https://www.etsy.com/shop/runnergrams), compression sleeves/socks, gels, chews, and KT tape.
