I have put together a race for some running friends. We are calling it the "Everything is F&%#ing Cancelled 13.1" and we are doing it in early November. It gives us something to train for and we are going to try and make it as much like a race as we can, we are even getting shirts made! Another friend is running a virtual marathon and we will have some who will run parts of the race with her and others who will help with aid stations for her. So we get to help out a friend and we get to have a race!

Now THIS is awesome, Stacy!!!!!

I had my eye on a small half that was scheduled for mid-November. When that was cancelled everything truly was cancelled, thus the idea for our very own race.

so fun! and funny!

Love this!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️

Doing my first 50k September 12 at an in person race in Wisconsin... nervous and excited and can't wait to eat when it's done!

Terrell Johnson's avatar

How awesome is that, Judi?! Which race is it?

Judi Mulkey's avatar

Thanks! Lapham Peak trail races which got moved to Nashotah Park in Hartland, WI.

1: Cooler weather for sure.

2: Running from my house in Monterey Park along the Rio Hondo and L.A. River bike trail to Long Beach to complete 26.2 miles for the Marine Corps Marathon Virtual Race. I've been running portions of it for 9 months now and am excited to do that much all at once.

3: Actually running the Marine Corps Marathon in person 10/2021 (I hope).

4: Covid to be done or controlled so that I can have a huge family get together, (I miss so many people so much), and so that I can actually hold my new grand babies and hug my loved ones, and take care of my patients without looking like a storm trooper, and most of all, not feel so incredibly sad at work so often.

Terrell Johnson's avatar

Oh wow, I feel for you, Maria. Here's to hoping all of that (especially #4) happens much sooner rather than later.

Those crisp fall mornings running watching the sun come up.. I love fall weather. No allergies. Great temps. It's a really great time to run.

Jeanne Torre's avatar

Breaking a sweat a few miles into my run vs. a few minutes!

Terrell Johnson's avatar

Same here, Jeanne! I cannot wait for cooler temperatures 🥵

I’m looking forward to doing a live 5k tomorrow with family and friends...it’s a small race to support a local fire department; this will be my 5th time running it. I was thankful they were able to make it happen!

Looking forward to keeping on with my marathon training despite the race going virtual (Santa Rosa Marathon in November). This will be my first virtual marathon and I'm not sure how the lack of fellow runners (although I've recruited a few to do it with me) absence of cheering spectators and music will change things, but I'm doing it anyway. I always do a fall marathon and I want some sense of normalcy. And a challenge. :-)

I hope it's not too soon to look forward to a "real" race in Los Angeles county.

Terrell Johnson's avatar

How are things out there, Belle?

Belle Cook's avatar

HOT! Forecast for this weekend is 107-110!

Stephanie B.'s avatar

Wow! Glad you're an early riser! Be safe!

I’m looking forward to cooler weather (below 110 degrees). I’ve been “jogging” all summer long in one of the hottest summers in Phoenix and in my lifetime because I recently moved to Phoenix. It will be nice to move at a faster pace than a sloth 🦥! I’m blessed to live in an area that I can enjoy the outdoors year round though!!!

Terrell Johnson's avatar

I've been seeing reports lately of how hot it's been in Phoenix -- I'm impressed you're still running outdoors!

Steph Weiss's avatar

Like many others here, I’m looking forward to a weather change. Cold front next week is supposed to drop temps here from overnight lows in the humid 80s (ugh) to the 60s for a few days. One of those cool days next week I’m going to run 26.2 ‘easy’ miles and let that guide my fall plans. The only ‘real’ races here this fall are trail races so trying to talk myself into trying a 100k as my next “big goal.” :O

Terrell Johnson's avatar

Wow, Steph! I don't know whether the fact that 26.2 miles might be described as "easy" or the fact that you're aiming for a 100K is more impressive. I stand in awe 😃

Steph Weiss's avatar

I did put ‘easy’ in quotes 😁 But 26.2 at long run pace should be ok (except in the cooler temps it will be hard to keep the pace easy!)

Ben Tracy's avatar

No races planned yet, but I'm excited to get out to some trails! The heat and humidity have made it tougher this summer, but we're planning some trips with an RV so I can do some fun trail running and my wife and 2 yr old can "glamp" near the trailhead.

Terrell Johnson's avatar

Awesome, Ben! Have any particular trail runs planned? I love that you're taking your 2-year-old "glamping" 👍

Ben Tracy's avatar

Definitely want to do Cloudland Canyon, some waterfall runs near Brevard, maybe a trip to the Pinhoti Trail as well.

Terrell Johnson's avatar

I dream about running Cloudland Canyon -- have only seen photos and heard about it, but it looks amazing. Have a blast out there!

Kel B.'s avatar

i have just a few fun virtual races coming up - a 12 mile relay tomorrow, a pb&j run 12k in a few weeks that should be fun (just because we are eating pb&j's when we are done). and i signed up for a pumpkin run in october. the swag is a purple hoodie with a pumpkin on it that looks super cute:) so just have some fun runs coming up. have a great holiday weekend everyone!

Terrell Johnson's avatar

I love that, Kel! You have a great weekend too 😃

I signed up to do the Yeti 50 miler challenge. The only bad thing is that as soon as I go over 10 miles my right knee starts hurting. I have no issues running less than 10 but as soon as I go over 10 pain starts. It is very disappointing...I have never had this issues before. I guess going to see. Physical therapist may help?

Terrell Johnson's avatar

Hi Anke! Yes, I’d definitely see a doctor or physical therapist about that — they could tell you what’s going on with your knee and (hopefully) come up with some ways to help you get past it. When did it start?

Susan Cormier's avatar

Ran the virtual Air Force half marathon this morning; very humid, but pleased with my finish time. Now to continue training for the Little Rock half in early 2021.

A live race in the cooler weather in Maryland

Judith R.'s avatar

I just bought my first home in Seattle and close in two weeks &I'm excited to run around a new neighborhood that I'm unfamiliar with. It's a couple blocks to the ocean so I'm excited for ocean view runs!! and of course fall weather running as summer weather running can sometimes be disheartening. :P

Terrell Johnson's avatar

Really excited for you, Judith! Your new home sounds AMAZING!

Rosalie Chan's avatar

I haven't run in a few weeks because I've been visiting family, but I'm excited to get back to it and I'm excited for great running weather in the fall!

Terrell Johnson's avatar

Me too! I'm most excited about running outdoors, as I've been running almost exclusively on my treadmill throughout the summer. Hope your summer has been a good one!

Howie's avatar

Much like your Atlanta weather, Terrell, Houston has been tough running summer conditions. I continue to run exclusively outside and “see some hope” temperature wise in about a week!

Terrell Johnson's avatar

You are our Ironman, Howie! That takes some dedication!! Glad to hear temps are set to start dropping there soon, even if just a little. 👍

Tracy Babcock's avatar

I’m still planning to do a marathon (my first) in Tucson the fifth if December and waiting to see if it will be cancelled. If it is - I’ll scale back my long run mileage to avoid injury, enjoy the cooler weather (and leaves!) and choose another marathon farther down the road.

Terrell Johnson's avatar

Hopefully it goes forward for you, Tracy! I saw where the B.A.A. is postponing registration for next April's Boston Marathon, for the same reason. Sending good vibes your way 😃

Brian Clark's avatar

Home time trial half marathon. Trying to beat my at home PR of 1:59

Terrell Johnson's avatar

Awesome, Brian! When do you plan to run it? Be sure to let us know your results, too 👍

Brian Clark's avatar

Second week in Oct. Mostly for my sanity, I've run 13.1 every week for 17 weeks now.

Andy Wallace's avatar

Temperature drops. Going to be 110 on Sunday, no running for me! 8-/

Corrina T.'s avatar

I can’t believe it’s almost fall! Times flies!

I’m running the Snow Canyon Half in November in St. George. I’m excited! It’s a beautiful area of So. Utah.

Terrell Johnson's avatar

🙌 I can't believe it's almost fall either!

Sean C.'s avatar

Ready for the cooler temperatures of fall and winter to return. I just can not run in the heat.

I have just been training for a possible marathon in Mississippi. The Gulf Coast Marathon. Not sure if anyone has done this race. If they have any opinions on this race. Or any other marathon recommendations for the Month of December that will run as in person race?

Stephanie B.'s avatar

Looking forward to cooler temps too! Now that my school has reopened, my only time to run is mid afternoon.

I'm still working on the blue ridge to the beach challenge - over half way there. That will get me through Nov.

Bren G's avatar

My ❤ goes out to everyone running in 100+ degree temps...you all rock...and I hope it cools down for you soon!! I'm looking forward to running a virtual half...the runDisney Wine & Dine in early November. This is my 8th Disney half and I know I'll miss the excitement of running the parks...but the awesome swag will be mailed to me. This is a Villains race and the Evil Queen is featured on the race medal!!! I run for Villains!!! Lol! 🧛‍♀️

Ditto everyone looking forward to cooler temps. I am still rehabbing an injury that is continuing to nag me, so I have been keeping the mileage low and the heat/injury combo is keeping my pace slow. Once I am back to 100 percent (fingers crossed) I want to train for something on my own, but probably will not seek out an in-person race. I don't know quite what that will be. I don't think I would be able to PR in a half on my own (I truly shocked myself with a huge half PR last year that I'm not sure I will ever be able to repeat), so I think it would be more of a distance challenge. We'll see what the next few months hold. And what about you?
