Edge to Edge Half Marathon
Vancouver Island, British Columbia | Sunday, October 19, 2025
Run entirely on the Ucluelet Peninsula of Vancouver Island in the Canadian province of British Columbia, this race unfolds along the Wild Pacific Trail, a 9-kilometer trail network described as a place that “weaves itself into your soul” thanks to stunning views of rainforest on the trail as well as reefs, shipwrecks and whales out in the Pacific Ocean. You’ll need to be on the lookout for land-based wildlife, too; one travel agency notes that “deer, bears, cougars and wolves may use the trail or the areas around the trail — [so] please leash your pets and keep your children close to you.”

A great running read
A Guide to New York’s Running Clubs. This is actually a fascinating phenomenon to see take shape, especially as running has undergone a boom since the pandemic: running groups that aren’t just about running, but rather clubs for all sorts of things — from pitching your startup to finding a date to bonding with others who are building businesses and careers too. (And, while this is NYC-focused, I’d be interested to hear if groups like these are sprouting up in other cities/places too.)
George Levin, a founder himself, helped start the New York chapter less than a year ago. “I am a runner myself and I hate networking. I know it’s important, but I really hate it,” he told me.
He was interested in this club to start to solve that problem, he told me, “and then it grew into something bigger in my life — not just meeting founders but cool friends.” On his birthday recently, two of the group’s runners celebrated with him. He met them only five months ago.

“Experience is simply the name we give our mistakes… The only difference between the saint and the sinner is that every saint has a past, and every sinner has a future.”
Sorry folks … I got nothing and will resort to dad joke-speed humor: if a walking stick trains long enough, does it become a run club?
Now that's one I didn't even know existed! If I were younger. . .!
Amazing, though, I was thinking this morning that I was about my daughter's age (37 y/o) when I was running up the stairs at Palani Hills in India--384 stone steps! Now,it's all I can do to walk the vertical to the top where we now live. Age rolls on! I"m getting a new walking stick (bamboo) soon.
Running club just started a few weeks ago in Seattle put on by REI and Orca Running. I would have joined if we still lived in that area of Washington!
