Thanks Terrell for increasing my lizard awareness and vocabulary at the same time. He can be our unofficial mascot as we thru our own cycles of feast & famine. At the age of 75, even as we hear about scientific breakthroughs in fusion, I believe science will never have “all” the answers. I find myself contemplating the “mystery” of existence and am so humbled by it all. Wishing you and your precious family and followers a Healthy, Happy 2023 and beyond♥️👣♥️
Have you ever read the "The Tao of Physics: An Exploration of the Parallels Between Modern Physics and Eastern Mysticism" by Fritjof Capra? I'm sure you have. . . :)
Best wishes for the holidays to you and yours. Happy to see a contemporary on line who has the same thoughts. . . :)
It’s been a non-ordinary four weeks. Niece and her husband got Covid19 canceling a planned early thanksgiving ... did get in a half over TG weekend (#110) ... managed to listen to a memorial service for another niece’s grandmother-in-law via Zoom ... that may be a first. Got in half 111 in last weekend for which I wore Bib#111 ... it pays to be on a first name basis with the race director. Taking two-day / one night vacation in Fort Lauderdale (half hour drive) at a fancy hotel ... mentioning this because we got the night via an on-line auction. Figured I’d plug “Bidding for Good” where products and services are donated and non-profits get the benefits. Happy holidays to everyone in our fine community.
I will! He's such a funny little guy -- and, we'll probably have him for the next 10 to 15 years, as that's his life expectancy. So there should be plenty of stories ahead 😃
I needed this essay today! I’ve been battling colds, increase in anxiety due to a toxic workplace, and now my oldest tested positive for Covid. I’m taking today as the opportunity for cuddles, family and connection, even if that means lots of tv. Giving myself permission for this moment!
Oh I’m so sorry to hear your oldest has Covid! Hopefully they’ll bounce back soon. It’s the perfect time for snuggling on the couch, isn’t it? Sending good vibes your way for getting well soon!
May this Covid episode be short. Speaking of health and medicine and doctors, I’m reminded of the man who told his doctor, “It hurts when I do this.” The doctor replied, “Well, don’t do that!”
Yep. My brumation starts in October, but unfortunately is accompanied by an increase in appetite and features the McRib. Usually by the end of November I get disgusted with my laziness and bad eating habits and begin my new years resolution(s) and have done so again this year.
IDEA FOR TOPIC: "Destination Running" - picking out destinations to go run and/or taking advantage of where you are for a run. Tech, strategies, the why, experiences/stories, etc. could all be involved. I'm passionate about this topic because it is soooooo fun. Running 13 in East London was absolutely one of the best ways I could have experienced that location. Adding a listen to a podcast about the area you are in even further enriches the experience.
I can imagine how much fun the London Half Marathon must have been -- was it the London Landmarks Half? (I've only researched it for the newsletter, but it looks amazing from everything I've seen.) That's what running the San Francisco Half was like for me -- such a cool way to see the city that you'd never get from your car.
And, oh, I feel you on the increase in appetite -- something happens right about now this time of year, doesn't it??!!!
What a cutie you have for a pet! Actually, I'd heard of "brumation" before when my daughter was into reading every dragon fantasy books she could get her hands on! I think it has settled onto us humans this time of year as well--only we don't stop eating--do we?! Your dragon has some good tips in that department.
Kinda settled into our new place, but still too many cardboard boxes and Rubbermaid containers around for me. I've never gone for box decor being the minimalist that I am! Today is "work on books day" to try and catch up. I actually walked 3 miles the other day with no breathing issues. It felt good!
So glad to see that you are branching out as far as articles in your newsletter. Running is fun, but it is not my life. I'm quite happy to delve into other subjects that you might bring up in your articles. Believe it or not--it's you and the articles you write that make me subscribe to this newsletter--not running! I also need to mention the non-judgmental community that has been built by your followers--they're fantastic!
Better go now. . . cold and cloudy, a typical PacNW day. . . ice on the bird water, but the birds keep coming, especially Pretty Boy, my little Anna's Hummingbird.
Take care, best of holidays to you, your family and everyone else in the community! :)
You are so, so kind, Nilima -- thank you so much for that, that's actually what I need to keep going as a writer, believe it or not. It helps to know whether or not you're off course. So thank you!
Also, glad to hear the moving into the new house is going well -- what's that phrase, "ice on the bird water" mean? That's interesting... happy holidays to you too!
I so enjoy your articles. I’m hoping to come back from a couple of injuries and looking forward to the training plans. Will you be giving information on how they can be downloaded?
Thanks, Melissa! Basically I just need to gather them together into individual docs, which I’ll then convert to PDFs and then send out an email to you with links to download them. Shouldn’t take long, I just need to sit down and knock it out 😃
Hi Terrell. No not a race in London. Plotted my own course from Tower Bridge to Victoria Park. Some rougher parts of London. I have started my New Year’s resolution in December. Eating clean in December has double impact because I avoid the bad stuff of the holidays and get ahead of the new year. Also started training for my first full. I hope you have a great holiday. Enjoy the treats on my behalf. And let’s make 2023 a year of great memories!
You're welcome, Terrell. It's how I actually feel about the newsletter. To kind of explain it in runner's terms. . . It's like running solo on the trail and you meet an old runner friend. You talk about them, about their life, sometimes delve into a topic that is interesting as you run together. . . then you part ways, but there is always something left there that makes one think and how nice it was to see them again. Used to happen a lot, but my runner friends have either died or moved away. So goes life.
Oh, as "Ice on the bird water". . It's just ice. which is very uncommon here. This morning, it was so thick, I had to bring in the water container and thaw it out. My hummingbird feeders were frozen, too., which is hard on them cuz they eat sugar water. Silly things should go South, but us humans have convinced them it is OK to stay here. I guess you don't get ice in Georgia!?
.I'm a birder as you may have gathered. I used to go on the Audubon Bird Count which happens every year for gosh knows how many years now. On December 21st, every year, birders go out in groups or solo, listen, look and count the birds in their area. Reasoning is, it is the most stable time to find the real bird population.. The results are sent into the Audubon Society and the count is tabulated. Sadly, the number of birds has gone down and we have many more birds on the verge of extinction. I figure the time I give to feeding and watering the birds is my small way of keeping them around.
Take care. . . Enjoy the pre-holiday festivities! There seem to be a lot of them now that the pandemic is over.:)

Thank you my friend! You have a happy and healthy holiday too -- see you in the new year!

Right back at you, Dave! One hundred and eleven -- seriously amazing! 🙌
i was so engaged by the story of your lizard! keep us posted regularly!

Good advice! :)

Just a thought. Keep up the great work.

Yes…many years ago but found it intriguing.
Enjoying Joe Dispenza, “You are the placebo”. Fascinating….
Best wishes right back at you Nina. Be well, stay joyful ❗️
Now that looks Interesting! I'll see if our library has it. . . more than likely, it does, but worth waiting for!
Doing lots better now the move is over!! Take care! :)
