Terrell, yes recharge with your precious family and make moments they will always remember. Nothing is more important....

As for 2023, I still think an annual “meet up” at a half marathon of your choosing would be fun for all interested. If planned early enough, perhaps you could negotiate room rates at a decent hotel in walking distance to the race...

That Marathon might also be “the” training schedule that year...

It might be interesting to survey your subscribers to see what their interest level is and how many might actually show up. Who knows what might happen that weekend? New friendships, PR’s , families running together & exploring a new city or town etc.. the possibilities are endless. Just nice to go to a new place and look forward to connecting to like minded people. If this world needs one thing more than anything else it is “connection”!

I would love us to read another running book together about people who have overcome odds.

The other day I thought about Raven running every day in FL (Running with Raven) & then about the sweet man that took in the donkey in the another book we read. (Can’t remember the title of the second one.)

Those are not my typical reads & they have stuck with me! That’s my vote.

Thanks for all you do here & have a nice break! 😊

The Half Marathoner community speaks for itself. The exchanges amongst the runners are the best part of this blog. Your stories of your family are heartwarming ... and give us a chance to pause and reflect on our own families. Last weekend, I did my fifth Space Coast half marathon in Cocoa, FL. Takeaways? 2 ... one was a sign at mile-12 that read “Run faster, this sign is getting heavy” and the other was in the early part of the race. A lady drinking coffee in her front yard with her two girls ... guessing ages 2 and 4. I stepped onto her lawn and asked, “Does she high-five?” I put up my hand, and the little one slapped my hand and gave me a 1000-watt smile. It made my day.

Terrell! I'm running the Boston marathon next year. I'm incredibly excited not just for the race but also to get back to the US for the first time in a few years.

If anyone here is also planning to run or is based in Boston, it'd be cool to meet up in April & enjoy the race & city together.

Terrell, thank you for your wonderful newsletter. I love reading your posts - I always find them thoughtful and inspiring. My favorite is when you link to articles or books from those who have faced challenges. I hope you keep doing what you do, pivoting as you see fit - I'll be here for it. :)

Have a great break and see you in 2023!

I love your training schedule but I don't follow it because I work 2 jobs. I have to get up very early in the morning and then I'm off to another job and they're both very demanding jobs. I love your columns because it gives me a lot of inspiration. I'm the coast guard race 2 years in a row virtually but this year I'm actually gonna go there I'm really excited. I work at 1 field for UPS round planes and I'm excited to actually run on The runway. It's gonna be a fun race. I also did a trail fest this year for my 1st time ever and it was very difficult but I had a lot of fun. We had a run for 3 days straight and the trails were very difficult. But the vacation racing are really amazing people I still give you in the Medals even if you do not finish the race. I rented ARV camp for 4 days That was the 1st time I ever did a race and camping at the same time. I became a better runner when we could not work and this shows what I'm doing these different Challengers. Even when I'm working this hard now I can stay very focused and I am Much stronger runner than I was in the past.

Terrell - So I finished the Monterey 1/2, even met my goal (under 3hrs). It is a really great race - very well, er, run... a significant portion of the race is along the coastal trail, nothing but some brach between you and the ocean. My buddy who convinced me to run it somehow managed to convince me to run it again next year, even while I was sitting in the finish area! Next year - 2:45? Might have to find another one to do between now and next November. Thanks for the newsletter!

Terrell, thanks for a very interesting read. Perhaps running gear (shorts, tights, shoes tested and books) should continue to be on the chat or An Ode to the Lone Runner.

Good morning. Please let me start off with "Merry Christmas". This is easily my favorite time of the year, both religiously and secularly, for the preparation for Christ's birth as well the good will most definitely shared around by all.

I think that you have done well with your blog transition. I love the new direction, for it includes both the "old" and the "new". I've enjoyed the reading on the blog in general and now, with the tweaks you've made, it's made it more educational and so more enjoyable for me. I'm able to read things I might not otherwise find or read, about training for instance, which I truly enjoy. I also love "our" groups interactions - hearing stories and anecdotes from all makes the days that running, for me, becomes "mechanical" easier to transition through.

Please continue your work for 2023 and what I also include in that is your "innovations" that come to you during the year - some that even come from our groups suggestions. With all of our hectic lives, it's always good to read abut ways that peers come up with to both battle thru down times in running, as well our hopes for better as we pursue this insanity we all call fun!

Hi Terrell,

I am gearing up for a spring half and the Berlin Marathon this Fall. Easing in as I was injured last year. I think I would input on training schedules- who does everyone use or not use. I think it can be confusing which plan to use. Also gear, etc. We may not be training together but we are all running and sharing what is going well or not well is helpful. I also love the idea of a book club. Happy New Year!

I live in Davis, about 175 miles away. I get there as much as I can for diving and kayaking. This was a rare dry visit! I guess it’s hard to get to - but I just hop in my car and try to avoid the worst traffic times. It’s not too far from San Jose airport.
