I'm a walker, not a runner, and I totally agree with Meb's advice. I completed my first -- and so far only -- half marathon in Raleigh in November 2018: 5 days before my 75th birthday. It was personal, specific, challenging, and time-constrained. All the elements Meb suggests. Thanks for the post!

Thanks T! Even though I am closer to intermediate (having run seriously for 4-1/2 years now, 10 races from 10k-Full) I kind of skipped the part about knowing the best way to do things. Reconnecting with this wisdom on goals is a good way to kickstart my personal efforts. My nebulous goals have not helped me recently and this has great potential to help me focus!

Thank you for opening up the running world to me and, particularly, for sharing in this newsletter the powerful piece by Alison Desir. She makes a case for what needs to happen not only in the running world but everywhere we allow ourselves to pretend that racism and politics are not part of our lives.

Thanks so much, Elizabeth! Really glad you're here. 😊 That essay really moved me as well, and was a wake-up call I needed to hear.
