“Tell him about the times when the war did not separate us — and tell him that things can be different between men in this world.”

What a beautiful story that is sadly still all too relevant today. Thank you so much for sharing.

This is the first time I've commented on an article and so many have inspired me. This article resonates so completely I felt I just had to express my sincere thanks, Terrell, for all your work and sharing so much knowledge and incite. In today's world, Jesse Owens' story strikes a resounding note of hope for mankind. Thank You Again.

Beautiful, powerful story Terrell—thanks as always for your inspiration. I also appreciated your perspective about this weekend’s virtual half to those of us who aren’t feeling ready to focus on running what we can. That’s what I needed to hear! I’m hoping for a 10-miler with gratitude that I can run even if my training got interrupted by life.

Thanks so much, Kara! I totally hear you about this weekend. In retrospect, I probably should have pushed out our schedule by another week or two -- I shouldn't have made it so close to the election. Hindsight is 20/20, of course!

Things have been happening for all of us, and I've realized (yet again!) that the really long distances just aren't in the cards for me right now. Maybe later when my kids are older, but right now it's hard to set aside the training time -- a half marathon is about as far as I can go right now. Life happens to us all, doesn't it?

Indeed it does, thankfully my time off helped my Mom and she’s recovering well from her broken hip. Last year I ran a half the Sunday after Thanksgiving which ended up being an enjoyable taper week. I may try that again to get 13.1 in this year.

Good! I’m hanging in there. Our school district just decided to have everyone work from home for 2 weeks. (I’ve been going into my classroom every day. It’s so much easier & quieter there than at home. Plus the school was pretty much empty.) It will be an adjustment & hopefully won’t last past the 2 weeks. Other than that, enjoying the cooler temps in Vegas.

Terrell - that story is just amazing. I had never heard it, and am very moved by it on so many levels: 1) the sportsmanship!! (we all need to demonstrate that!), 2) the relationship that defied all odds, 3) the calm and perseverance amidst such stress, and 4) following through on that promise. For so many reasons I needed to hear that story today. Thank you for sharing it. I plan to "pay it forward". And on a running note, in spite of knee issues, I had a GREAT run today, in the pouring rain. I felt so happy, liberated, and most of all grateful. Be well, and stay healthy Terrell, and everyone in this community!

Thank you, Lynne! I’ve missed hearing from you these past few months, though I know it’s for very good reasons. Hope you are well, my friend — and I love hearing about running in the rain!! 🌧

Thanks to you Terrell. Keep doing what you're doing. It's touching lots of runners! And hopefully with the hope of this potential vaccination, life for all runners, (and regular humans too!) is going to take a step towards normal.

Great story Terrell, thanks for sharing. I had heard a version years ago but never as fully told as this. Grace means so much more than accolades.
