I'll start 😀 I think for me, the biggest thing I want to do is re-establish my own consistency with my running -- I always get thrown off around the holidays -- but also with strength training. I find motivating myself to do strength training to be really difficult; I just don't want to do it! But this is the year I really want to try.
For non-running, I want to read -- or at least start! -- Robert Caro's LBJ series, and make my way through the whole thing. I'm absolutely fascinated by LBJ and the period of history he lived through and helped bring into being.
Haven't commented here for awhile. I'm headed to the Tokyo Marathon for March 1 - will be my 3rd WMM (so 3 stars!) and 4th marathon since turning 60 (just did Indy this past November). Still have to pinch myself to say "I am officially a marathoner!". Rest of year will be working on speed - with hopes of getting a 2:05 for the Route 66 Half in November...so big goals! Thanks Terrell
Michelle, this is so cool! Have you ever been to Japan before? I'm so jealous! It's going to be an amazing, amazing trip. And 2:05 in a half sounds amazing too!
I love this time of year. Here are 3 running goals for 2026: 1) try some different; 2) do something better; 3) get outside my comfort zone. That will look like:
1) In Feb, test my mettle at the Will Rogers 12hr, which is non-stop laps around a 2-mi trail with 300 feet of gain per lap for 12 hours;
2) In May, re-qualify for Western States at the San Diego 100 (and hopefully run it faster than I did in 2024);
3) In November, toe the line at the JFK50, our country's oldest ultramarathon, which starts in Boonsboro, MD, and runs in part along the AT. It's also fast.
Strength training is definitely on my list as I continue my vintage journey.💪🤔😄
By year's end if the weather cooperates, I will have 40 states completed with my half marathon bucket list. I'm also hopeful that my request to transfer to my employer's Tucson facility will be allowed so that I may live closer to friends and family. I've lived in Minnesota the past almost 6 years and while there's a lot to love about this state, I've come to realize how much I miss friends and family in AZ, CA, and NV and desire to be closer to them.
Good luck to everyone on your respective goals!🏃♀️🐢💪🤗😄
Love that term -- "vintage journey"! I can totally get too why you'd want to move to someplace warmer, especially if you have friends and family in those other places. It's good to be closer to the ones we love, isn't it?
I'll be 57 in June so I prefer to call myself vintage lol! When I moved, I was going through a divorce, hadn't seen family and friends as often so I thought, give it a shot in MN but I've found those same family and friends reaching out more. I don't have any ties here in MN besides my employer and the pandemic proved I can do my job anywhere. My dog, adopted in 2023 will be with me as we're bonded!🤣 I do agree it's better to be closer to the ones we love.
'26 is the year of 26 (point-two). I'll do at least two marathons, Eugene in the spring and TBD in the fall, and might for the first time consider a third in one year. We'll see!
Hoping to run in the Eugene 1/2 marathon in April. I am turning 68 this summer and have had some health issues interfering with training. It has been difficult to get past the 4 mile point, but I’ll keep pushing! Have a great 2026 and may all attain their goals!
I managed two biggies for me in 2026 already: ran a 10k in London (finished third in my age group and had a personal best time by several minutes) and did a short pre-dawn run in Paris. So - got to run in two different countries this month! My next big goal is to conquer a full marathon in 2026.
terrell i signed up for a half marathon in march! doing the annapolis running festival half (not to be confused with the annapolis half miler - ostensibly harder and in the heat of summer). i've been plagued by leg injuries and haven't done a half in years. if i have to crawl through it i don't care. anyhow, while not a dream location or race, just getting out there again is a major highlight!
It sure is! Actually I visited Annapolis only once, but it's a beautiful city -- good luck in March! (Hope the weather cooperates too!) How are your legs doing?
I’m going to do a mix of road and trail running. “Up for Air” in Moab in early April and then a 12K down Ogden Canyon in mid May. I am repeatedly drawn to the idea of walk/running in the in the Swiss Alps later this summer. Not a race. Just wanting to be in the mountains, going hut-to-hut. I haven’t yet made definitive plans for that transatlantic adventure but will hopefully decide soon.
That sounds really awesome, Christine -- I've read a lot about those kinds of running adventure trips in the Alps, it will be so interesting to actually do it. And I love that they're not races; they're just running through gorgeous places. Have you ever done anything like that before?
After the Tokyo Marathon, I have a half at the end of April. I'm hoping to get into NYC for fall. If that doesn't happen, I'm planning to maintain my running fitness and place my primary focus on body composition. I'm carrying around more fat than I need and could stand to increase muscle. I've been using The Pump app for strength work since about May 2025 and I love it. It's just old school weight lifting, which is exactly what I need. If I'm not marathon training, I can eat to support muscle gain rather than all of that running. I may also run the half in Philly in November. I still need to have some running goals, lol!
Right at this moment, I need to finish my 2 million meters. I only have 40,000 to go before the end of January. From there, there are several more rowing challenges. I've been working on a body weight exercise program that has me doing 70 some squats a day...not including the push-ups and planks.I guess it is strength building, but necessary for older person. More later. these little squares on the computer throw me off. . . foggy here. . . typical for Oregon this time of year! :)
What a great question - I have three goals. I ran 1260 miles in 2025, a personal best, so one goal is to maintain or beat that mileage in 2026. 2nd goal is to have a strong finish in NYC marathon (aka no bonking), ideally <5 hrs which would be 30 minutes better than any of my past marathons, so I know this will not be easy without consistent training. The third goal is to run one low-key race (aka free, sponsored by the county) every month - accomplished the January one with a New Year’s Day 5K, which was super fun
A thousand miles in a single year -- let alone tacking on an extra 260! -- is amazing, Rupa. These all sound like fantastic goals for the year; you ran NYC this past year, right?
I really love reading all these! You guys are all rockstars in my book. For me, I’ve fallen off the wagon, so to speak, so just getting back into ANY rhythm and level of consistency will be a win! What I haven’t done but need to do is sign up for a race - any race. Lord willing, I’d love to run another half by the end of the summer.

My husband and I are also running Tokyo! This is #5 for us both.

John, it looks like you have a seriously exciting year ahead! The Will Rogers 12-hour especially sounds wild -- I can't wait to hear how that goes!

Nice! So you got in Eugene then? You must have been an early bird -- that race sold out SO fast this year!
Did it? Guess I lucked out. My son and I are both running, which will be fun!
hope you are entered in Eugene. . . it sold out the other day!!
I’m in!

Thanks, Ken, and right back at you! Hope things go better with the health issues you mention; you have a great 2026 too!

Chris this is so cool! And the year is so young -- were/are you there for the running, or just to visit?

I did MCM last year for a guaranteed entry to this years NY marathon. Very lucky!

Running wise I’m looking to do my first Ultra.
