O-kay. Okay, okay, okay.
I can see the date on the calendar, I know January really is here.
(Does it have to be?!)
All this week, each morning when I roll out of bed I notice my body does a little more creaking, a bit more popping.
I feel a little like a bear that’s been hibernating all winter, poking its head out from its den for the first time in weeks. Snow is still on the ground; does that mean I can go back to bed?
Getting started with running again — especially after a long break — can feel this way, right? In the back of my mind, I want to yawn and go back inside my cave.
But something tells me, put that thought aside. Go look for your running shoes in the back of your closet; don’t worry, they’re still there. They’ve been there for weeks, just waiting for you to lace up again.
Truth be told, I have been running here and there during the past few weeks. Sporadically, but surely. So, I’m not completely off my game.
But what game I do have is pretty rusty, and in need of some long, slow stretches to get me fully warmed up.
With that in mind, I thought I’d share with you some plans I have for the year ahead here in our newsletter, plus some miles you can get started running over the next week.
First up: the books I’d like to read and explore as we run this year. I’ve followed this format before — most recently a couple of years ago — but it occurred to me that it might be helpful to share with you a kind of syllabus for what I’m thinking, the topics I’d like to explore and the directions I’d like to go.
Bear in mind, we may not get to all of these, or explore each one from start to finish. We may touch on just parts of them; that’s okay, because what I hope is to find the gold in each to share with you, the parts that are most relevant for us.
And, perhaps, as a starting point to explore other things – we shall see!
Here’s what I look forward to diving into:
