A few Olivia Rodrigo songs had made it into my running playlist in the last year, so when I heard she had a new album out, I was curious. I had a long and late night drive home from the airport, so I put on this new album and played it loud to help me stay awake. Loved a lot of it. So - just another 55 year old suburban dad here who also likes Olivia Rodrigo.
I also did the ear - and nostril - waxing thing for the first time a couple of months ago. I’d seen my barber do it on someone in the chair before me. Knew it was needed but hadn’t pulled the trigger on that yet. One day I said maybe we should. She took care of it. I looked like a twisted kewpie doll with wax-coated q-tips sticking out of both my nostrils and ears. One of my red students was sitting on the next chair. I gave him my phone so he could video record the process, and then I sent it to my family’s group chat 😊
Indeed! We are legion! Well there are two of us, at least, so we can start a club.
Seriously, though, I like the rawness of the emotions in her music. It reminds of how amazing it is to feel things so deeply. Even the negative things.
I love these three songs from Olivia Rodrigo’s new album, though the song that made me a convert was from the Hunger Games- “you can’t catch me now” - the first time I heard it, I had it on repeat mode for pretty much my entire run (am also 55 :-)

Likely - though a few years old already - the Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes. One of my favorite movies in the series
