The Woods of Whitefish Mountain
An early fall run through rugged, single-track trails near Montana's Glacier National Park
Whitefish Trail Legacy Run
Whitefish, Montana | Sunday, October 3, 2021
Set for an early fall running along the rugged single-track trails that wind through the forests just west of Whitefish Lake in the Beaver Lakes Trail Area, this race unfolds along the 25 miles of trails in these woods just south of the Whitefish Mountain ski resort and Glacier National Park off to the east. The course runs under the cover of towering trees much of the way, and you’ll need to be ready for some high elevations, as the trails for the half range from about 3,280 feet to about 3,700 feet above sea level — with a total elevation gain over the course of Sunday’s half marathon of about 2,250 feet, organizers say. (If you’re up for a longer run through the woods, the race offers a 50K run on Saturday.)

Brad Stulberg, an author whose books like 2017’s Peak Performance explore the science and psychology behind motivation, health and well-being, often posts thoughts on Twitter that make me pause and reflect on exactly what we’re all doing when we run — when we try to get healthier, better, faster, etc.
This morning, he posted some thoughts that I thought would be perfect, especially as we’re all about to enter a new season:

By the way, it’s September! Can you believe it?! Have a great run out there today — be safe and be well 🐇🐇
