How to Love a Hellhound (MSok)'s avatar

This is exactly where I’m at! Had big plans to get at it tonight and it was 100 degrees when I got off work….so pushed that start back a bit. I’ve run short distance 3-5 miles all summer, but I’m looking for a late fall or winter half marathon. I’m not sure I’ll be able to find a race that is exactly what I want, but my goal is to get race ready and stay ready in case the right race pops up!

While I ponder The Long Brown Path I will say “It’s time!” Resonates. I basically took the summer off from running, partly just lethargy, partly the heat, I did walk 4 miles a day, and partly because I had no races planned. Other than a Turkey Trot my racing is all in the spring. But I’m actually a little refreshed and have gotten two runs in this week already and I think I’m back, at least through next spring. It’s time!

I don't blame you a bit. It's been SOOOO hot this summer, warmer than it usually gets even here in Atlanta. Glad you're feeling refreshed and back on it!

Sackets Harbor Half in Sackets Harbor, NY.

My races during a time that my employer is merging divisions has been a great outlet for me. I recently relocated to AZ however next year expect to move to TX which likely should bode well professionally for me.

Races have been great and while I'm becoming vintage with each passing year, they have been a great way to see what a wonderful country (overall) we live in.

Love that — I’m becoming vintage with each passing year as well 😂🍷

State 38 is in the books today!🏃‍♀️🐢🥳 It wasn't a PR but not the worst. I also wasn't last.

Changes are happening at work so training didn't occur to the level I had hoped for.

It's all about giving yourself grace for when life happens. I get better with the duration I allow for the dagnabit. The scenery at most of my races, not to mention the hospitality of the locals helps!😄🤗

Love this so much, Julia!!! Where/which race was it?

Start with a mile walking. . . onto a 5K next April 27, 2027 for the Eugene Marathon Duck Dash. . .that's how it's shaking out for me. I keep trying. . . In the meantime rowing will have to do. Raining the past 3 days here in central Oregon. . . suddenly turned into Fall complete with the leaves changing. :)

Yes, heat is my kriptonite. I am sitting out the couple weeks until the temperature drop to real autumn. I think my short forays have been more detrimental than beneficial. Happy Trails to all.

Dang! Super meaningful to read that our interview resonated with you and made you think. I love what you said about keeping your toe in the water. It's funny because when I talk about that concept with clients, that's the exact visual that always comes to my mind. Looking forward to hearing more about how the running is going!

Your suggestion to pick up running again now that the dog days of summer are over (we hope!) is perfectly timed. And, to take away our shame from having been too lethargic and down right lazy this summer, I love the line “let’s wipe this day off the books!” I feel as if a priest has absolved me from my sin of laziness.

LOL! Love hearing that, Christine!

A body at rest stays at rest is true - but also a function of the observer's motion. In other words, you can be flying at 1,000 mph and that is just being

That's very true!
