Nestled along the coastline of this ancient city on Cyprus, an island nation in the Mediterranean whose history dates back to the 10th millennium B.C.E., the ancient city of Paphos is where you’ll run this stunningly scenic out-and-back race — you’ll start and finish the race in front of Paphos Castle, which Greek legend says is the place where the goddess Aphrodite rose from the sea. From there, the race follows a coastal route along the Mediterranean shoreline; if you’re still in town for a few days after the race, organizers also host a 5K Cyprus Wine Run on the Tuesday after the marathon and half marathon, which unfolds through local vineyards and the village square in nearby Kathikas, which lies about a half-hour drive from Paphos.
