Every year around this time, my mind starts to drift off to a place like this beach, just off the coast of South Carolina. It’s a small island, the kind of place where you can put down your chair and settle in as it sinks, slowly, into the wet sand. The days there linger on and on and on… it’s the kind of break we all need from time to time, perhaps now more than ever.
We spent almost every summer there as kids growing up, and I’ve had the chance to take my own kids too. Its sights and sounds are part of the rhythm of our lives, as the summer hits a soft crescendo during our stay and only starts to wind down when we leave, as we start our initial descent into the school year.
I don’t know about you, but I’m in need of exactly the kind of break a beach like this offers — and I bet you are too! So, for the next couple of weeks, I’ll be taking some time off from the newsletter to get away with my family, do some adventuring, and then come back fresh.
When I see you again in mid-July, I’ll share with you the running schedule we’ll use to train with for our race get-together this fall, and the race we’ll run together — I’m still looking through the list of race ideas you shared with me back in March, to pick out just the right location.
Until then, I hope you have an amazing, amazing week and get some great runs in — and stay cool in this week’s heat wave, which is no joke! (In the meantime, I also have a pair of new reader stories to share with you — look for them in your inbox while I’m away.)
As always, keep in touch and let me know how your running/life is going — and I hope you get to enjoy some time off too!
Your friend,
— Terrell
So when you say "Let us take a break" you're not really inviting us to your SC beach cabin, right?

Happy resting, Terrell! :)
