I'm always watching the weather. . . a self proclaimed weather nerd. I've been watching GA and NC closely as I have friends and know people there. Stay safe!!
Very rare, according to Wunderground. Helene was almost retired, but she came up again. I do hope you make it trough all right. I've never been in a hurricane. . . blizzards, snow, ice, 126 mph winds in the Sierras, but that is different. :) Ice storm last winter, but that was a rarity!
Wish you and your family lived in Oregon, too! there's plenty of room, the trails are fantastic. Never too bad. . . summers are warm, but not sweltering.
It's oggy here today, but it will clear off and be 76 degrees.
Thanks, Nilima! This is a pretty rare thing, but sometimes it does happen, so we're going to just hunker down and get through it. I wish we were in Oregon! :)
Thank you for writing this, Terrell! I’m definitely feeling some storm anxiety and reading this helped. Sending love to you and your family. See you on the other side!
Right back at you, Katie! I always hope against hope that the forecast ends up being wildly overblown... we shall see! Sending love and hugs right back to y'all.
When I worked for BeloSouth (before it was bought by AT&T in 2006), I gave hurricane preparedness speeches to condo associations, civic clubs, and other organizations, so yes, I’ve been tracking storms since 1989! STORMCARIB.COM is a nifty site … plug in your location’s latitude and longitude and based on the latest NHC plots, you can get the CPA (closest point of approach). I have that site, and NHC.NOAA.GOV bookmarked on my iPad. We had one feeder band come through Coral Springs (near Fort Lauderdale) about 7AM this morning. Stay safe.
We will get some of the rain and wind from Helene here in Kentucky, but nothing compares to what’s happening south of us. Still, I have a 10K trail race on Sunday morning. A trail race after four days of rain (and rain Sunday morning too). Rather than hating the thought of it, I’m looking forward to the mud run. An adventure. Anyway, stay safe Terrill and anyone else in the path of the storm.
When I thought about the title of your last essay, it rang a bell. . . I remember those were the last words I said to my Mom before we left her out in Smith Valley where I was taking care of her because she was bedridden from a stroke. Sort of bittersweet.
Hope all is well in GA. . . we never know. Beautiful Fall day here. I'll keep fingers crossed that everything is OK where you folks are! :)
Hope you get through ok Terrell, we’ve had some relatively mild rain and storms causing chaos and flooding here in the UK and the anxiety is real. Look forward to seeing you on the other side.

We just have rain. . . as usual, Fall in Oregon.

Thank you, Dave! I'll definitely be watching the NHC site basically all day today, I'm sure!
My 9pm report from South Florida … squally weather on and off all day … last squall around 5pm. Not hoping for the best for friends in GA and NC
