Because I’m a man in his fifties — and a child of the 80’s — when I put in my Airpods and go for a run, I typically listen to the kinds of music that got my heart going when I was a teenager, soaring anthems like those by Springsteen and U2, whose “Where the Streets Have No Name” is probably my all-time favorite song to run to.
Now, though, newer music has caught my ear, especially after having kids of my own — all of whom love Taylor Swift, the artist who’s had probably the biggest influence on my household of anyone.
So, I’ve had the chance to hear (a lot of!) her music, and some of it is really good to run to — “Style,” “Welcome to New York,” and especially “I Think He Knows”:
I love the beat of the song — it has the perfect time signature for running, I think — and especially the last few bars, they’re just magic and get me going faster every time I listen to it.
Which makes me wonder, what’s your favorite song to run to? What’s the one song that, every time you put it on, gets your heart and legs going, maybe even without you realizing it?
What song gets you, like Taylor sings, “skipping down 16th Avenue”? — Terrell
Dave Clark Five, Catch us if you can , we will run as fast as we can. Actually, i don’t use music. Prefer to hear what’s happening around me and what my body says.
