7 events left this year I think... I am trying not to sign up for anything else! They include 5K-50K distances, one more Spartan to complete my 2x Trifecta this year and Hyrox.
After just finishing my first half marathon in 40 years the other weekend, I am now training for the next one in February. I wanted to complete two half marathons before my 60th birthday in April next year. Iām back out on the road and loving it. I miss I when Iām not running.
My favorite Vacation Races race at Lake Powell was cancelled until further notice, so I booked a cruise with my sisters instead. I might pick up a local race this fall, but Iām not stressed about it. I have 2 races booked for next year. šš¼
So⦠nothing more than maintenance running for me. But⦠I keep thinking about the 10 miler in Atlanta. Some siblings and I ran the Atlanta Marathon years ago as a relay team.
We loved it. Like the 10 miler, not a half, but great way to get a bunch of us together. Multiple teams? Just a Friday thought.
In October, I plan to obtain the 100MI Premium Badge in Nike Running App. An achievement I havenāt made since summer of ā20. And a less impressive endeavor but you gotta start somewhere, right?
Having just finished Sydney Marathon , and on the eve of watching Berlin, I'm experienching runners high post partum. So I suspect I'll be spending Fall looking for (then trainig for) my 2026 Marathon
My wife and I have been on our quest to run a half marathon in all 50 states. Currently at 31 states and will add Michigan next month (Grand Rapids). After that, we have the St. Jude Marathon on December 6. We try and run one marathon a year in addition to the halfās we do. It takes so much time to prep for a full marathonājust hard to find the extra time! BUT, I have to have a race scheduled or I will not be motivated to run, especially in the heat. Enjoy reading your posts, even though I rarely comment. Have a great weekend!
On Oct 4, I'll get to run the Cuyamaca 100k. It's about 62 miles and 8,800 feet of gain through the beautiful mountains of east San Diego county. This will be a unique challenge, as I've only been able to train for 6 weeks due to an injury. I'm curious to see how I respond when things go off the rails, as they inevitably do in long ultras. Good luck to everyone on their fall races!
I also can't wait to hear how this goes on just 6 weeks of training -- 8,800 feet of elevation gain will be a challenge! Good luck, my friend -- let us know how it goes!
In the next few weeks, my marathon training will top out at 20 miles. I'm excited and a little nervous about the start line logistics in NYC. It's definitely a one time experience for me then I go back to the trails. I'm grateful for the opportunity so I'm doing my best to stick to the training plan.
Thank you. Itās so crazy that I got in. My niece signed up for the lottery so I did too. Then I got in. She will be there to support me and maybe next time she will be running it.
On October 5th I will complete my half-in-50-states journey with the Smuttynose Rockfest Half Marathon in Hampton, NH. More importantly, a group of friends decided they wanted to be there to support me. I have enjoyed those members of the endurance community who not only participate in events but support friends and family. Next-level thanks to all of you!
This is incredibly cool, John! Wow -- that is so awesome. How long has it taken you to complete the other 49? When did you start? What were some of your favorite moments?
Hi Terrell--It took me 15 years to get in the other 49. I would have been done a year or so ago but a couple of runs were called because of weather. Favorite moments? Just last month I won my age group my 3 seconds! I've been on the other end of close races before so this was kind of fun. All my other favorite moments were when I did runs with my son and/or daughter.
It's a beautiful day here in Northern Virginia - absolutely perfect for a run. I changed my plans for Fall - started out training for a half and then was going to run with you on your 10 miler. Ended up training for the Northern Virginia Senior Olympics. Ran the track events last Saturday - the venue was indoors and was very nice. I ran the 200, 400 meter runs and the 60 meter dash. Lots of fast old people! I managed to eke out 2 Silvers in the 200 and 400 and a Bronze in the 60. It was a long day, but very enjoyable and fun. I run the 5K this coming Sunday - will keep you posted.
Thanks, it was a surprise - I hadn't expected to do that well. Definitely a new experience. They had 5 year age groups through 100! The oldest participant was a 94 year young woman! There were 5-10 men in my age group (85-89) dependent on the distance. he weather looks ok for the 5K - really looking forward to t.
Well, the 5K is in the books. I was on a faster pace than I planned )sub 35 min) and stubbed my toe going up an incline on the trail and fell - actually I slid! It took me about 15 minutes to recover, but I did finish. Face is a mess (scrapes and two beautiful black eyes) - I would send you a pic, but it's too early for Halloween (I don't need to buy a mask). I did get 3rd place, so all was not lost. Going to be walking for awhile.

Exactly! Love this, Sarah! š
I just signed up for back to back halfās (Kenner, LA and then Biloxi, MS) in December. Would love to hear if anyone has some training advice for me!
Years ago I did a pair of halves on consecutive weekends. Limited in-between to on run on Wednesday between the two Sundays.
i do an octoberfest 5 miler every october, and a celtic solstice 5 miler in december every year.

Good luck to you in NY ⦠i tip my hat to the marathoners in our crowd ⦠Iāll stick to halves.
I'm so jealous, Jill! The NYC Marathon will be such an incredible experience.

Jill , youāll have a fantastic time, the cheering crowds will carry you! Iāll be running NYC for the 10th time this year, it never disappoints!
Thank you and Congrats on your 10th year! Thatās an awesome accomplishment!

Look at you, a medalist, Ken! That's so awesome. We'll miss you, but that event sounds like it was a blast!

Good running to all and stay upright!
