The Dipsea Race
Mill Valley, Calif. | Sunday, Nov. 7, 2021
Registration opens in August for this year’s running of this jaw-droppingly beautiful yet treacherously grueling race through the forests of Mt. Tamalpais State Park just across the Golden Gate Bridge from San Francisco — which the New York Times called a “topographically schizophrenic romp” — but it’s one that ought to be on the bucket list of anyone who’s capable. At just 7.4 miles, the distance is misleading; from the starting line in Mill Valley, you’ll climb dizzyingly steep trails through the woods, only to make a dramatic plunge toward the Pacific later in the race. The winners, too, are head-scratching — everyone from an 8-year-old girl to a 72-year-old man have been crowned its champion over the years.
$90 for adults, $60 for children under 16
