Races you'll love running + weekly recommendations
Good afternoon/evening, friends! ☀️
I hope you’re having a great week so far, and getting some really good running in; it’s only mid-June, I know, but the weather here in Atlanta has been surprisingly, refreshingly mild so far for summer. I know we’re taking a break for June, but maybe we’ll do a July running challenge like we did in May? It has 31 days, let’s think about it.
If you’re joining us for our summer read-along, I’ll send out our first discussion for David Grann’s The Wager this Sunday — look for it in your inbox. And, if you’re a free subscriber, remember you can take advantage of a special discount here.
Also, I wanted to take a moment to note all the fantastic suggestions you all shared around strength training in our Friday discussion thread last week — your tips were awesome! By the way, if you haven’t checked it since then, Casey Johnston of She’s A Beast chimed in and offered to do a Q&A, which I’d love to host as a discussion thread in which you can ask her questions. Let me know if you’re interested, and I’ll try to set it up!
As always, keep in touch and let me know how your running/life is going.
Your friend,
— Terrell
🏃 To run
🌊 Mendocino Running Festival. A gorgeous run through the woods of this coastal California town that’s perhaps best known for its stunningly beautiful cliffs along the Pacific Ocean, glass beaches and nature trails, this race features a half marathon in addition to a 10K and 12- and 6-hour races. You’ll run through the 720-acre Mendocino Woods State Park, along single-track trails with views of the surrounding valley and the Big River in some stretches of the course. Set for September 9, 2023.
🛣️ Jordan River Half Marathon. Run along a gentle, paved trail by the river here in South Jordan, a Utah city nestled in the Salt Lake Valley between the Oquirrh and Wasatch mountains. You’ll run entirely along the Jordan River Parkway Trail, a 40-mile-long walking, running and biking trail that runs over bridges, past golf courses and parks, through wetlands and ponds, all at a time when the fall colors and weather should make it perfect for a 13.1-mile run. Set for September 30, 2023.
